  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Redrock rip off

a $50 riser block just cost me $22 to ship ground.

Sigh.

Hi Brian,

I think I speak for most of us here saying that there is no question with your pricing. Your product is wonderful and accessible. This thread is a mistake and I'm sure the idea got out wrongly. This camera generates too much heat and passion... (please Redusers, don't quote me with fan settings tips, I meant "heat" as in "love", "impatience", "creative potential", etc...)

the riser block's a few ounces. I mean, really.

Ok, well, Brian just took care of me, so, eh

Another bad word about RR will get you a bat in the knees.

Beware of shippers, not necessarily just vendors. Example, I got hit with a huge bill from FEDEX for something I shipped a few weeks ago using my account with them. I thought it would be around $50, but it ended up being more like $250. I called them to ask why it was so much and within five seconds (seriously), the agent cut the charge in half. Had I gone on, maybe I would've gotten it down to the $50 I thought I was going to be billed in the first place. But I thought 50% off was good enough, so I cut and ran.

Any which way, they made a nice tidy profit and still managed to make a disgruntled customer feel "satisfied", even though he was actually taken to the cleaners any which way.

The lesson, as it always is, caveat emptor.

wow that just sounds criminal!

:angry03:

I'd venture to say it's just a simple case of a company being threatened by continuously rising fuel costs taking creative steps to offset these losses. Some customers will complain and get remedial compensation, whereas others will not. That money will go into the kitty. Gotta avoid raising the rates at all cost. That, would really tick everyone off (as opposed to only a fraction) and give the brand a bad rap.

Sounds like good ole capitalism at work to me!

I don't know why you're chortling at Lewis, this is wrong, too. McDonald's benefits from the efficiencies of the economy of scale, specialization, and automation, period.

I agree, but this doesn't change the fact that you have to either build the cost of putting the burger in the box into the price itself, or you have to add a handling charge at the Point-Of-Sale. The cost is going to be there no matter what. McDonald's clearly(and smartly) chooses the former.

"Enjoy" your $17 ground-shipping charge while you can - the worst is yet to come! Mohahaha! Oil's going to possibly hit $200 by year's end, a friend just got dinged an extra $60 fuel charge on his butt for a flight from Calgary to Vancouver, and all because of a bunch of suits sitting around "speculating".
There's no lack of oil at the moment and it certainly hasn't changed in the last six months - it's just pure greed. That's the big picture as I understand it.

Now as far as Redrock is concerned, I'm in line waiting for mine and I don't question the decision for a second. Calling Redrock a ripoff is laughable, mate!
Let's just forget about this already! Or someone could start a new thread on the economics of shipping. Whatever! (There are also other threads on the topic of unhappy receivers. Check those out).
