Hi,
I wrote this post on another thread but nobody answered me so I start a new thread.
I'm thinking to buy this esata adapter http://www.caldigit.com/FASTA-1ex.asp
and to connect to it my western digital disk http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=374 and for monitoring on sdi broadcast crt monitor to buy this http://www.matrox.com/video/en/products/mxo/output/#close
I'll buy on september a new macpro and usually I use macpro tha I find on the post production facilities but for a portable system for the set and short projects (the broadcast monitor it's the only quite heavy stuff) what do you think? Please let me know.

With all my respect I don't care if there are faster pc laptops. I've got a macbook pro and It works really well with redcine, redallert, fcp etc.
I used it in a lot of works on set and in post with red (commercials, music videos, shorts).
What I'd like to know if a system as I described above could be a good option.
With my configuration I think it's possible to make a color correction with redcine on a broadcast monitor and to use a disk in esata mode on a laptop.

From what I see in your post, I think the setup you have looks pretty good, although I might also recommend that you add a second drive (with a dual SATA card) so that you can duplicate your footage as you bring it in. So you have a safe backup on site.

I always copy the red footage on 3 firewire disks on the set. Esata external drive could be more for a preliminary color correction.

Hey Luca, be careful to buy a Macpro in September. It´s quite sure there is a Macpro Quadcore in the pipeline for end of this year. (Just serious rumor)
Cheers!
Marc

You'll need a 17" if you want to run Color on the set... which you very well might want to do that down the line. Color will have a "red" room in it later this year... was shown at NAB, but it takes a 17" to run Color...

Thanks all for the replies. I've got a 17'' macbook pro. Color works really well on it. Your system looks not really portable Dave, anyway what is it?

Can I just apologise for my first post (or any post for that matter) being all mac vs pc. I've been hanging arround scarletuser for a while and I think I'm getting bored with the wait. Plus the moon is in a funny phase.:innocent:
