(Build 16) When using lockit boxes the camera seems to take the time code once jamed but doesn't hold inside a 2hr window. Any wisdom on this matter.:detective2:

Are you using lemo to lemo cable? I'm finding that using lemo to lemo is off a couple of frames from the begining and drifts a couple frames an hour. Using bnc out of the lockit to lemo on the camera timecode is within a frame(and usually right on) all day.

When I plug in the lockit with lemo to lemo the lockit light turns red like it is rejaming(?)

Brian Ferguson at Red and Coffey Sound both say that the lemo to lemo works but it hasn't been my experience on multiple reds(build 15 and 16)(not using genlock)

For the drift - I would first ensure that the lockit and camera are both setup to the same rates. If they are off, that would account for the drift.

Ive been using lockits on several features, without major issue. The biggest hiccups seem to be people remembering to do it, and correct wiring of the lemos.

anyone care to comment on Denecke SBT vs. Ambient - about to do a monster sized job and I am thinking Denecke SBTs - would love any feedback. Thanks in advance -

For the "Manure" feature, we purchased and used the Denecke SBT with no issues - ever. Always within 1/2 frame on sync, when compared to the TC slate in RedCine. We will be using them again on the next feature. Right now with a rental ambient (on a different show) we are having issues getting a properly wired cable.

Thanks Photocon -

Gotham Sound here in NYC insists the Denecke is a better unit - and Gotham supports pretty much every significant production on the East Coast.

Denecke's TC out is BNC only correct? You used a BNC to lemo into the RED I assume?

I hear that on the Ambient - folks have less problems taking the TC out from the BNC rather than the lemo - which makes no sense to me. On the show you are on now are you going lemo to lemo on the Ambient?

I've been using the SD 744Ts TC-Out many times without any issues. Camera holds sync at least one Red-Brick long. After reboot one have to sny again. To avoid that we've been thinking of using an Ambient TCTX radio TC Transmitter. Any experience with this?

Mark,

I am working with Ambient for about 15 years now (since we have been neighbours in Germany).

The Lemo issue is a very common mistake made by operators. The Ambient Lemo cable is one way. Thats why its usually marked on one end with "ACC", stands for Ambient Clockit Controller. This side is connected to the master clock to set the lockit boxes. If you want to use this cable for the camera the ACC side has to be connected with the lockit box. Otherwise the box tries to jam from the camera.
I'm working with Ambient and our RED One's without any trouble.

Hope that helps.

The SBT has a 5 pin lemo option, and we used that on "Manure".

We dont have a lemo to lemo cable on this show, and the bnc to leno was wired pins 1 and 5, no 1 and 2 (i.e. TC out, not TC into the red)

We've been using Ambient's on a number of shows, and having good success with them. BNC to Lemo. Only complaint is having to roll the camera for it to indicate TC JAM - but that's a RED issue. No problem with the Clockits.

Jamsic is not continues syncing.

IT SYNCHRONIIZES THE MOMENT YOU PRESS RECORD BT

If you need super synchronizations, you have to use TC lock as well.

Two cables.

You should be able to see the change in TC, if you have the TC displayed, the instant you have the lemo plugged in. True that it doesnt display the lock until the camera rolls, but the TC is slaved when the lemo is properly connected.

For this purpose, I deliberately leave the timezone unchecked in the system menu. Then it displays a wildly incorrect timecode until the camera is jammed - then it displays the correct time code. Saves a clip.

I believe the lock icon means that it will no longer accept a NEW TC. For example, set the TC via the lemo, roll, then try and set a new TC. In my testing, this doesnt work. However, If you set the TC, then set a new TC without rolling, it will work.

We just used the Denecke SBT on a shoot last week and the timecode on the RED was always 1 second behind the Denecke Smart Slate. We were figuring that monitoring was behind or something. Didn't really matter as the audio and slate just needed to be synced.

The most accurate display of TC is on LCD when camera is recording.
However it is bit late since the priority is on recording.
The TC at the back of the camera is refreshed only from time to time so don't even look at it.

Thats just the monitoring, its about a second behind. Open up a R3D in RedCine/RedAlert and compare the displayed TC with the shot TC. Should be within a frame.

That's what I love to hear! However, it sucks for people who might be renting but not on Reduser to know this information. That's where accurate timecode on the back of the body would be very helpful!
