I am trying to use a new SDI-COMPONENT blackmagic Mini converter to convert so i can use with my Marshall R70P-HDA monitor, going to the component in, but am not having any luck. Has anyone tried converting the image out of the SDI using any other converters or had any luck with the blackmagic?

RE: SDI non-RED monitor

Spike is using an AJA HD10C2 SDI>analog converter, and is working fine. Taking the SDI signal from the "preview" SDI out and then to RGB component on IKAN 8" HD monitor.

okay, it's working, i had a bad cable BNC, the blackmagic mini convertor sits on top of the camera in a Ugrip support, SDI in and Component HD out, it will also output SD, they have only just started shipping and i got one of the first off the shelf. I have yet to test the SD out yet but the component works fine.

quick update, the 12v output from the red is making the monitor quite noisey I had a 4 pin lemo to 4 pin xlr cable made up and it powers the monitor, but the monitor runs much better using a battery rather than running form the RED because of the noise in the image.

yes, all component HD and SD signals it will also output AES/EBU or analogue audio, and it has an SDI loop through, which i will use to my 17 inch Panni HD monitor. $425, i don' work for Backmagic by the way, i am just really pleased with it for the price point.

are you SURE SURE about downconverting?

are you SURE SURE about downconverting?

hello there,

maybe i'm just wrong - but i checked twice on their (blackmagic's) site, and cannot find a word about DOWNconverting.

are you ABSOLUTELY sure that you can DOWNconvert HD-SDI signal to SD (standard definition) PAL or NTSC signal?

can you just connect NON HD monitor to one end to be sure that signal is really SD?

i will do that tomorrow filip just to be sure.

any news about downconverting?

Thanks Antoine. Their product descriptions on those are very vague in that respect. Much as I like their products generally.

Similar with the Multibridge Pro. You could think from the description that it should act as a standalone downconvertor, but it can't and when you go back and read it you realise it doesn't claim that, but doesn't point it out very well either.

Hi

I had my REDBYTE HD2SD downconverter on a RED the other day. It converts HD-SDI into almost anything else (HD comp, SD-SDI, SD comp, YUV etc), and it worked a treat. It is quite small and light, and runs off a 12v DC input.

It is more expensive than the Black magic box, but it is very good!

I bought mine from Digital Garage in the UK.

Cheers

Adam
