  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

LSdesigns Carrion monitor video up on www.finnerknowsbest.com

I hope RED see this thread to have this working for 3rd party stuff. seeing menu thru DVI and can have HD-SDI output at the same time.

Stuart mentioned to me that it is not possible to ever get this happening.

Finner, thanks for your reviews. Great and very helpful!
Sorry, if I ask for this, I´m sure its posted somewhere, but I still don´t understand following: Can I feed this LCD with Power from the Cam?
If yes, could you please post some pictures from this connection?
Is the difference from model b or c just two more HDSDI In- and Outputs?
Thank you!
Marc

Marc,

Right now I do not know of a cable that powers the monitor from the camera itself but you can get a D-tap to 12volt (monitor plug) that can run the monitor from the D-tap on the red battery plate.

From what I know the difference from the B to the C monitor is more HDSDI inputs/outputs.

Am i supposed to be happy or disappointed. But i do feel bad about it, after so close to purchasing this one.

Finner, did you or anyone else ever get contacted after you purchased your monitor.

I got an email that paypal went through, but other than that I have no form of verification they have properly processed my order. It says 3-4 weeks for delivery on their site. So my question is, since they don't have a phone number and I emailed them already but to no response, will I eventually get some sort of verification?

Thanks in advance,
Nicholas Evan Vedros

Hey Finner,
Thank you for putting this thread up, and I hope you are enjoying your Carrion.
On the last question, you are correct. You need to feed it HD-SDI to get HD-SDI out.
This is how most if not all monitors work. They only output whatever feed you give them.
And the Carrion only Outputs HD-SDI on model "B" and "C"
Model "A" does not have the HD-SDI IN/OUT.

I can confirm that the carrion acts sucessfully as a anamorphic dequeeze monitor - the image is still "slightly" tall - in that sense it is not a true de-squeeze. Firstly you need to set it's viewing mode to anamorphic which will still leave a tall image and then go to "custom" and stretch it out a bit more - this will still leave it slightly stretched (ie: the 2.35 frame is about 2.1 or so) but it is more than usable as an anamorphic viewing system.

Daren,

I called up RED again today. Randy said you can have DVI-mode with Menu option and at the same time you can have HD-SDI output. I asked him again if he's sure about it. And he said yes, it isnt a problem.

Which build are you using right now ? I dont have my RED yet, so i cant try anything out

Regards

It doesn't work on build 15.

That means Randy hints that it works on "build 16", my assumption on build 16, Randy said he's sure about it.

Thanks for the footwork on this JTM!
