I couldn't find instruction for installing or using REDCINE.

When I double click the icon the screen goes black for a few seconds and then a page comes up for half a second before the program quites entirely.

Anybody knows any software conflicts? How do I do/use it? Any help is appreciated.

MacBook Pro 2.4GHz w/4GB of RAM running OS10.4.11, OT 7.4.5

Unfortunately redcine will only install on Intel macs and is very buggy to say the least.
we are looking into running it on a windows box to see if its any more stable

our mac config is....
2 ghz Intel core duo
1.5 gig ram
OSX 10.4.11

My 15" MacBook Pro is an Intel Mac and 2.4GHz is just one generation old. Do you mean a desktop Mac? But I have seen my 2nd AC using it on his 17" MacBook pro.

Thanks anyways.

try using your 2nd's version and install that and see if that works.
have you loaded all the RED codecs ect....

have you tried RED ALERT? will that do what you want?

I've downloaded the file and installed it several times, with same result. People have mention a folder in the "library" but I don't see a REDCINE folder anywhere.

RED Alert is working fine for me. But I would like to be able to use REDCINE as well.

Hi AIO,

Try using the Disk Utility to Repair Permissions, then download the newest version of RC and try to reinstall. Also make sure you screen resolution is at the highest setting.

Let me know if this helps.

hijack?

hijack?

more of a sidetrack, then a hi-jack...

i have successfully installed REDALERT, REDCINE and REDRUSHES, but can't get REDLINE to install. It seems to be part of the REDALERT install (which installed fine) but then I can't find REDLINE?

thanks.

yes redline is a Command line tool....scripts are ruling this world...its for me a hacker world...i am doomed to wait until some one has the pity to give the actions UserInterfaces...or make some droplets.

open terminal?

it is a program named Terminal. On your Mac:

>Applications>Utilities>Terminal

But, as Kaya says, it's for people who can write scripts. There's no Graphical User Interface supporting it. Unless you write code, you are at the mercy of the smartypants people who can write GUIs for it, like Crimson Workflow and R3D Data Manager, just like the rest of us who only know how to push buttons and such.

Followed your advice and it WORKED!!!

Thank you so much. Well, the next thing is learn to use it.

Derek

Hi Derek,

Glad that worked for you, there are Redcine tutorials on the Red.com/support website, just click on the version history button under the download button for Redcine. Scroll down a bit and you will see 5 links for Redcine tutes, just copy these and paste them into your browser window.

PS command line apps (redline in Red Alert at least) is not hard to use even for those of us (myself included) who do not know anything about coding. This has been incorporated into a GUI in REDrushes now but just so you know how it works...

1. Create text edit document and format as plain text, save it to your desktop with a simple name (ie. batch1.txt)

2. open Red Alert and work with your R3D clip as usual, save a file path after grading and instead of hitting the final RENDER button to start the render you will click the Copy to Clipboard button.

3. tab over to your text edit document and type Command V to paste the first command into the text edit doc, hit the return key a couple times to give yourself a space between commands.

4. repeat this process for as many shots as you like then save your text edit doc again. (I recommend starting with one shot to test this, after that skies the limit)

5. open the Terminal (Applications/Utilities/Terminal)

6. hit return to bring up the command prompt (it should already be there)

7. type the word "source" without the "" then hit the space bar once

8. drag the text edit document you just created into the terminal window, this will create a file path to your text edit doc after source (ie. source /Users/username/Desktop/batch1.txt)

9. hit the return key to start processing your shots through the Terminal

Thats about all there is to it. You must have proper file naming for this to work, that means no weird characters or spaces in your file or drive names, just letters, numbers and underscores.

This is the tip of the iceberg with command line, if you know how to code you can incorporate all kinds of other cool stuff into your command line as well.

Hope this helps.
