Please if anyone had problem starting
RED (only booting appears), HELP.
Sometimes it starts, until you press
record it works, after that it freezes,
and it want go on again.
Is it Build 16 or camera it self?????
HELP!!!! HELP!!!!
We have a big project in 3 days!!!!!!
:help: :help:

One thing to try, if you haven't already, is to completely re-installation build16 again, right through the black shading.

Before you try to shoot with it, reformat the drive and only then try to record something.

This use to work, now I can't even start the camera.
Did you have the same problem?

Check the battery connection, make sure it is secure. I am not trying to make you sound stupid, it is something we all do.

I have seen Red cameras not work, but disconnecting and reconnecting the battery solves the problem.

If that doesn't work, disconnect the EVF and LCD. And any other remote motors or anything.

See if you can power up.

What batteries are you using and which accessories do you have connected?

We use RED batteries, problem is not in the
power, booting jams constantly.

Anyway RED started, but only day after.

We installed build 16 again,
calibrated black, started filming,
INTERNAL ERROR appears, and camera
booting jams, without LCD, EVF...

Please send us the log from the camera. When you eject a card or drive, it writes the log.

Antonio,

When you boot up do you have the Red Drive plugged in as well? If so try booting up with absolutely nothing apart from the power cable plugged into the Red (no Red Drive cable, no EVF, no LCD) - this used to cure hanging boot-ups in Build 15. Once the camera is fully booted up then plug in the Red Drive.

To eliminate whether it's anything to do with the batteries and/or battery plate try running the camera off mains with the Elpac adaptor if you have it (make sure you plug it into a surge protector) or else via the charger if you have that cable instead.

Tried everything.
Started after few hours.
Error was: recording error: INTERNAL FAULT
after that camera jams, switch it off
ant it won't go again, and it does not save
log file on the media.
And it works now just fine,
can't make it go wrong.

and it does not save
log file on the media.

the camera ONLY writes a log file to the media when you EJECT the media. if you power down before you eject - you will not have a .log file. It is a function that the camera performs WHEN you eject.

For the record, we never boot our cameras with the RedDrive plugged in.

Not saying you can't - just saying WE don't.

We ALWAYS eject the RedDrive, and pull the drive cable, prior to powering down.

Not saying you must - just saying WE do.

We almost always have the LCD AND the EVF plugged in when we boot - and we have no problems with that.

We DO NOT boot the camera with any other accessory (microforce, cinetape, etc.) plugged in.

Not saying you can't - just saying WE don't.

In the past, we had some issues with V-plates. To make sure you have no issue with your V-plate if you do experience a "hanging boot" or power issue - you should try AC.

If you are on AC and have a "kick out" - (sudden loss of power) - pull the lemo and CLICK THE POWER BUTTON THREE TIMES QUICKLY - (this helps clear the charge in the capacitors in the camera) - before you re-boot.

as I said earlier:
we tried everything!!!
now it works perfect
even in 16:9 4k 25fps!!!!
what did go wrong???
can I be shure it won't
happen in the future??
I don't think so.

improvised silly solution

improvised silly solution

We had a very similar problem with our RED in the middle of a production. It all of a sudden simply didn't turn on. You would be surprised at how we solved this problem.

Let me state that I'M NOT suggesting you do this, I'm just sharing what worked for us.

We covered our RED with a plastic bag, and a towel, and cooled it down for a few minutes with ice packs placed on top.

Some would probably not recomend it because of condensation issues, but humidity is not much of an issue in my very dry country.

So I know it sounds stupid, bur hey, and hasn't crashed again ever since.

thanks for the tips, but we are gonig to send it
to the RED guys.

Scary and Serious Problem

Scary and Serious Problem

I have a very similar problem. I unboxed my two RED ONE cameras for the first time last week that have been sitting around since I received them about two months ago (#700 to #1000 range). A more RED savvy person helped me installed Build 15 V2.2.5 and did a brief test before a real shoot.

I primarily used one camera (let me call it Camera A) while the other as back up. Cam A had some trouble booting up the night before the shoot when a RED experienced AC checked on the cameras but it booted up eventually after 15 minutes and several trials and configurations with accessories (including nothing attached to the camera). I was also told occasional boot up issue is typical on a RED One so I didn't think it was a serious problem.

The first day of shoot was interior and on Steadcam and everything went smoothly. The second day morning (a dry day), we tried to set up the camera in a park and the temperature was about 75°F. THE CAMERA JUST WOULDN'T BOOT UP no matter what we did. The only thing I saw was a small word "booting" at the back LCD screen (and the fan noise indicating there is power supply to the camera).

Fortunately I had another body as a back up to get through the day. But we already wasted two hours of precious production time that is unforgivable in our line of business.

The thought of unreliability makes me sweat or chill.

When I came back from the holiday, I tried to boot up camera yesterday and today. It would boot up ONLY SPORADICALLY, totally unusable!!!

Upon further trial and observation just now, the camera seems to boot up more reliably when the body is heated up, like after letting the dead "booting" mode run for 30 minutes on its own. But my other camera (let's call it Camera B) boots up almost every time.

What should I do from here? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
