I'm a little confused about the configuration of the bottom of the camera and the base production pack. Can it be mounted on a tripod and then quickly unmounted for handheld work without having to make any changes?

If not, what is the best way to configure the bottom of the camera to be able to do this?

Yes you can do both using the Red 'Shoulder Dovetail' that comes with the base production pack.

Having the handles REALLY helps when operating on sticks. It's great to have something extra to grab hold of. Here's some pics as well as my plea for handle extensions:

EDIT: My Sachtler quick release mounts onto the bottom of the shoulder dovetail. You can switch from sticks to handheld in about 5 seconds.

Boothba. Thanks. The reason I was wondering is I keep reading about all these other companies making shoulder mount rigs for the RED. I figured they wouldn't be doing it if there wasn't a demand. But if I can mount and unmount the camera quickly and easily with the dovetail then that's good news.
