Hi all,
Soon, I should be able to post here about a pretty big RED stereo feature that SCRATCH is currently being used on as an integral part of the finishing toolset.
But until then... I thought the collective here might be interested in how Journey to the Center of the Earth was onlined, graded and finished. The entire feature was conformed and graded in live stereo on SCRATCH. Pardon the slight sales angle here, but the artists at Walden and the crew of JTCE (and some folks at ASSIMILATE) worked very hard to put together the post pipeline for this feature, and I'm proud of everyone's efforts!

Some tech specs:
There were five SCRATCH systems that essentially did the entire post-process for conforming, grading, and finishing. Four of the SCRATCH systems were tied to a medium-sized SAN (2x Terrablock 24Ds) all seeing and working with the same media. One SCRATCH was the I/O station and logging/QC. Another SCRATCH handled conform and coordination with editorial and VFX. Another SCRATCH with a full set of Tangent CP-200 panels did the grade in live stereo tied to dual projectors with passive circular polarization. There was also quite a bit of interocular and convergence fixes that happened as well - live in SCRATCH. To do real interocular is hard and really is properly handled as a VFX shot, but minor tweaks without serious depth-of-field issues were handled in the grading session with the Director looking on.
To my knowledge, this was the first full feature graded in a live DI Stereo environment in a client-supervised setting. It's not the first released, but the grading for this feature was done mid-summer 2007.
Best,
