this system is being used by CBS for 60 minutes episodes. it can do broadcast, 2k and 4k. so my question is, if it's good for CBS why its not good enough for red users. once this system supports REDRAW, will this be a better system than FCP, FCS and scratch for ingest , render , edit , color correct and transfer to tape/dpx?

What's the price? Final Cut Studio will always be difficult to top with its level of functionality and rock bottom price point. Perhaps something more pricey like Scratch would be more vulnerable to an alternate solution. That said, is Redcode support even on the radar for Nucoda or just wishful thinking? Scratch is expensive but it is the best support of Redcode native as a grading solution there is. That said, I welcome the competition. :spidy:

I believe Nucoda HD can't do 2K or 4K.
It's HD/SD resolution only.
Native support for many Quicktime and MXF codec including H264, DNxHD, IMX 50, P2 and XDCAM.

Maybe you can take a look at SpeedGrade DI or Matrix Color.

they have a full blown DI suite. the orphanage just bought one. Film Master.
i'm curious to see who dives into the RAW pool once the SDK comes out. the prob is that currently the RED user pool is not necessarily big enough for someone to base a profit stream on vs R&D. it will be soon and they would be wise to do it but its not guaranteed.

SDK please help us, you're our only hope!

i found out the speedgrade xr is around 20k, but do anyone know what is the price point for Digital Vision Nucoda HD and film master?

I'm sure you can call your local DV rep and they will be glad to help you with this info! : )

But, in general, from the pricing I have seen as a competitor - DV systems start at around US$150K and go up from there.

Hi

You are best once you are out of the FCP/color range to call and speak to a dealer for a product like scratch or Nucoda... I have had work graded on this system and a good Pogle colourist friend of mine loves it..

there are allot of options with Nucoda and the chances are you will not need (and therefore should not pay) for everything. For example they make there own panels which are very integrated, good, big and not cheap.

the most notable features for Red users are:

Excellent noise reduction
MXF read and write and great Avid interoperability
Very deep Colour correction feature set
Fast- (RT full 12bit Gaussian blur at 2k is nothing to be sneezed at)

However it is not traditionally sold into small production companies and one of the reason 'may' be price..

regards

Michael

Curious... how many can it do?

If you want to read about a Red project that has been graded on a Film Master system then look here;

Page 3 of the article covers the grading that was done by Warren Lynch, from Intercolour, Sydney.
