  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Collaborative Effort Anyone?

All are great suggestions. I was leaning more towards a narrative thing though. Same script, different filmmakers/ POVs.

I kinda like that idea too. I've always thought it would be interesting to hand the same script to top directors and see how different the movies they create were. Very different I'd assume.

I'd be in for a short film project. What my preference would be is for everyone participating to download the same script for a short 3 to 5 minutes in length. Everyone shoots, edits, delivers their own version. Could make for some good times and a lot of laughs.

As for the other collaborative effort where everyone contributes to the same project... That has merit and is interesting too. I guess I'd be in for that as well. Needs a theme to work off of. I want to agree with bodhi in regards to the soundtrack, however I don't see how that approach would be possible without cycling a recurring audio loop. There would be no way of knowing just how such a project would evolve and take shape and how long it would ultimately be. Or maybe I'm too tired tonight and I'm overlooking something.

as i did some audio and music works before,i do have some suggestion for the background score.

this site is one of the top,

http://shockwave-sound.com/genre/select/36.html

and the these are their terms and conditions.

the reason i suggest this site from tons of others is because it gives and option for the length of the cinematic piece. you can have a 3 or 2 minute (long) version or 60 or 30 second (short) version of the same music. it gives us the flexibility in the post when we editing the footage.

I could write a 5 minute narrative short, drama or crime, to be filmed from differing perspectives. Or a couple of shorts, if you want some flexibility to choose.

Once filmed, Redusers could vote on the best versions, then we could host a film out and have a screening in either LA or NY.

Cheers, Mike

I've got a couple scripts if anyone wants to take a look...

and perhaps more importantly, a very modest budget for at least one of them...

Logan -
If you'd like to shoot over a script or two, please do.

I've been talking with Mike (liquidigital) about this as well. I'm flexible as to wether the decision is one script or a couple for people to choose from. Perhaps what is needed (for the narrative short) is one ultra low budget concept and one that could command an actual budget.

I'd like to see multiple visions of the same story from around the world/ RED community. Once we have the script(s), final cuts should be fin in a short but reasonable amount of time and posted/ voted on. Then a film out and screening in both NYC/ LA would be great.

Perhaps a prize/ entry fee?

Well, let's read some stories!

Good point, thought of it as well. I know getting prints made and screened in LA is possible based on my relationships there.

If someone wants to "help" with prints and screenings in other countries - PLEASE.

Another idea would be the prints being circulated around the world for organized screenings.

Music would have to be composed for the movie, not acquired like a prop.

Keep this rolling. This idea has a huge potential. You can count me in.

Music - Let's look at this from the traditional filmmaking POV. For the most part, the composer scores to the story/film. So for this project, that should be the case.

I know the "stock music" option was being suggested in regards to the Baraka type movie but even then I feel music should come later and be COMPOSED.

So for this project, music should be composed, original and rights owned.

Also, anyone have suggestions for a name of the project? reduser film project? Can we use reduser or red in the title without impact to the company?

No, I don't think he would sue but I also don't want anything that could potentially be negative tarnishing the company that made this community happen. I don't want people thinking this project is related to RED just because we own and use their cameras. (Unless RED sponsored it, but that's not gonna happen. Hell, I'd rather see the RED team taking a well deserved week's vacation - everything stops for just a week.)

EDIT:
Imagine if we could all synchronize to shoot on the same day starting in NZ, following the Sun across the globe finishing in Honolulu! The 24-hr Magic Hour...

That would be an really awesome project - provided there was a theme. I think that can be rolled up into the "Baraka-type" idea.

One step at a time.

(1) Find a well written script (or two) and possibly vote on one or two.

(2) shoot the film

(3) access a venue

(4) roll out the red carpet.

(5) Go back to work.

So whos got a low budget script and where will they be viewed?

You seams to left out lot of 1.X's, 2.X's and (most importantly):

(4.1) celebrate
(4.2) recover from the hangover
(4.3) ask the girl in Your bed what is her name
(4.4) lodge a "stolen car report"
.
.
.
(4.9) Consider doing it all over again from (1) before going to (5)

:w00t:

For now, I think to keep things simple and speedier that potential scripts be sent to me and then I'll post 3-5 of the best (IMO) for everyone to vote on.

Prints and LA venue, not a problem, but more on that later.

Right now, send those scripts. 5 min max.
