  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4K 16:9 25fps @ RED28 or 4K 2:1 25fps @ RED36 ?

Hi,

i'm just before production of TVS from 14th century. We are lucky to have two REDs from Panther Munich, they just got them. Unfortunately no EVF yet and no RED Raid, so that's little clumsy.

My question is, as we are stuck with CF cards, what is better setup for us. Offline will be done in FCP and online maybe in Scratch or in FCP/Color or Crimson Workflow. Output is HD 16:9 for TV.

4K 16:9 25fps at RED28

OR

4K 2:1 25fps at RED36

Happy to be on Build 16 and will test in in very tough conditions.

Thanks for your help.

May lightning strike me down but I still don't see a difference between RC28 and RC36..

Personally, I've been going with RC28 16x9, without problems. Since most of my work is down-converted, I like to keep it all 16x9 instead of cropping later

If your final result is for (HD)TV, I wouldn't care and use 28.

Regards,

Uli

As with any digital format it depends on the end delivery. If it will end up on broadcast at max then RC28 will do. But if you want to future proof the footage for possible blow ups (hay, who knows? I've heard stories about charity clients getting some CSA theatre time only after an edit was done) RC36 may be a better choice. Plus a post crop from 2:1 doesn't lose that much as to affect an image badly, just be sure to frame safe I guess also your data wrangler won't get board thats for sure.

RC 28 or 36?

RC 28 or 36?

I would agree with that as a good rule of thumb - RC28 for HDTV end product, RC36 for the big screen.

As a bonus, both quality levels work more efficiently in Build 16 than they did in Build 15 ...

I believe RC36 would be great for faster motion. We tried and it worked for us. Can anyone shed light on this?
