  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Can/Will 3rd Party CF Cards work as well as RED's brand of CF Card with the RED ONE? I have done a search and do understand that some will work, but since RED's cards are significantly more expensive I am wondering if RED's CF Cards are somehow different from say, Sandisk.

How are RED's 8 GB CF Cards different from a 8 GB Kingston or Sandisk?

As newer and higher capacity off-brand disks are released in the future, can we be assured that RED will update their cameras to be compatible? And ill the RED FLASH (CF) MODULE work with off brand CF Cards>

With the newer 32GB CF Cards coming out, it seems like a so much more attractive filming solution to purchase these cards over the very expensive and heavier RED Raid and Flash drives.
 
This has been discussed in detail MANY times. There is currently only ONE card other than RED cards that will support the camera data rate. K.Berlin obove is correct.

Reds, prices for Cards are actually some of the best out there.
 
I find it seriously disturbing that I am "Trolling" with this question. I have received two PM's that accuse me of that. I am certainly not a RED authority but that has not stopped me from reserving a RED ONE, but I actually dread coming to reduser.net if I have a question because not matter what I just know that I am going to annoy and bother one or two extremely busy readers who still have to go out of their busy ways to send me a PM offering such helpful advice like, "search," and one jerkoff called me a "troll."

It's unfortunate that this is really the only place to go for advice and that RED actually endorses this site because RedUser.net really sucks.

Now. I have done a search and the answers to my questions were not found. If any of the higher ups at RED ever reads this post, I hope it means something to you that did not expect to get the useful and friendly advice I was hoping for. But when I get PM's calling me names is disgusting. My god, I spending nearly $25,000.
 
Joe I agree that people should not be calling you names and that your question was valid. But dude try and get some thicker skin or you will never last in this business. Freaking out because someone called you a "troll" is a little hyper sensitive.

By the way I know of some people that have purchased the lexar 300X cards and had problems with them working right with the camera. The Red cards seem to be the only safe bet right now.

By the way if you want to try and get me all sensitive you are going to have to call me much worse names then "troll" or "jerkoff". In fact come to think of it I would be suprised if you could come up with a name that I haven't been called before.
 
Joe.. dissapointed that you feel like the community is not as good as you expect.

Please.. point me to another camera company that has an open free community where the actual owner of the company responds on an hourly basis and I will try and adjust REDUSER accordingly to match.

And Finner is right.. if getting an email from people telling you to actually do some homework since this question comes up at least once a week gets you down this much... maybe this isnt the right place to be in.
 
No, I'm in the right business. It's just that the internet brings out some people's true nature.

If I posted one of the PM's for all to see, how long do you think it would stay up being for being taken down? And I wish the "owner" would read and respond. Because I am so disgusted with the elitism at RED that if knew that another company were have a comparable camera in the works I would not hesitate to drop my order with RED.
 
Joe... CF card performance has been a big issue with the RED ONE. Most cards do NOT match their specs for extended periods of recording. They may hit the numbers for a still camera, but seem to nose over with continuous recording.

The RED CF cards are certified by us. Most have had good luck with Lexar 300x cards. We buy cards that have been properly spec'd and tested. When we went after a 16GB card, all fell over so we had to do our own. As soon as we find 3rd party cards that work well across the board, we will say so. We are not really in the media business except by necessity for our customers. We really have better things to do.

I apologize if you have received disrespectful PM's from others. We can't control everyone's behavior. All we can do is do our best to support the community and encourage respectful behavior. The fact is, there are trolls here. Sometimes it is difficult to tell them from legitimate posters. How questions are packaged can often times be misinterpreted.

Last thought... when we announced our intentions to build this camera, we were called a scam, liars and con-men... which I thought was pretty disrespectful. We got over it.

Someone's sent you something you should just discard! I think the fact that RED's just announced kick-butt-super-fast-no-one-else-has-got-'em 16 gig cards, that a few members may think you're a dink. Don't sweat it man, and be thankful that you're in the know now, and in the RIGHT BUSINESS! But don't go slagging the whole CO.! And the BossMan? Pack it in! That's why you're getting the PM's! You can't slag a dude who doesn't seem to ever sleep; who wants his product to be better than any other alternative available to more than most could hope for, and be relevant way into the future... I may just PM you myself, come to think of it! ;>)

What? Are you kidding me? The owner of the company just answered your complaint and on a Saturday to boot! Your question WAS answered by forum members in a only a few minutes, even though, if you were on the forum very often you would already know this info since it HAS been discussed hundreds of times which is probably why someone was rude to you. Just be glad they only PM'd you and did not do it in public like most other forums.

I think your comments are way out of line.

I've seen persons on this board get called a "troll" for posting what I consider to be completely legitimate messages. No reason to get upset though... there are thousands of people on the board and a few are bound to be operating a couple cylinders short of an engine. Ignore the comments and keep on posting.

It's easier to have thicker skin when wearing a Red codpiece and not much else. I tried it the other day and nothing could faze me. The added benefit was that my wife was speechless for the first time in her life. Good things. There may be some licensing issues though . . . . .
