This seems like a strange thing. I copy the entire content of a 8GB CF to my macbook pro and I can't open the folders to the scenes anymore. I manually need to get rid of the extension .RDC to get access to the R3D file and/or the QT wrappers.
I'm loading the material with a sandisk extreme reader FW800 into a macbook pro running on 10.5.2. Anyone had a similar experience?

Thanks,
Sebastian

Come on, I can't believe I'm the only one who has encountered this? I really don't know what is causing this strange issue. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Sebastian

A guess is that an application on your system has defined the extension .RDC as some type of container document. Have the icons of the folders changed? If you ctrl-click on the folder is "Show Contents..." or something similar an option in the pop-up menu?

Hi Demelidon,
sorry, it took quite a while to get back because I couldn't go back to the studio during the last days. Yes, if I ctrl-click and go for "show contents" it will show the entire folder with the R3D file and the QT wrappers.
Otherwise it is asking to set an application to open the file. This effect is only happening on my Macbook Pro and it's a new thing. I have no encountered before. I don't know what could have changed on my mac.

Hmm, it definitely sounds like folders with ".RDC" at the end of the name have been set to show as a "package" (the same as applications, iMovie projects, etc). I don't know enough about OS X to say how you should go about fixing it. If you have AppleCare telephone support (computer less than 90 days old, or 3 year extended warranty), I'd call them and explain that you need those folders to show up as normal folders. Otherwise, some of the Apple support forums might have an answer for you.

Hi demeledon,
you are absolutly right. Folders with .RDC still have a folder icon, but they are treaded like a package. To prove this, I just created a new empty folder and added manually the extension .RDC and it would not open.

It looks like somewhere there is a preference preventing anything with and .RDC extension to be treated as a simple folder.
I couldn't get any info from apple and even my mac guru had no idea. The only suggestion he had was to set up the entire macbook pro again. And this is what I really don't like to do... Anybody with any suggestions?

Biba, I can't choose the finder when asked which application. In addition I would want to access files directly without any fuzz. I can't even open any R3D files in Red Alert without deleting or modifying the extension.

Hi, i have the same problem and i found a solution:
Need the developer tools from Leopard DVD and then setFile command in terminal, looks like this:
setFile -a b Folder name
Helps for me, i hope helps for you too.

I have the same issue... The terminal command doesn't work for me. There is a "global solution" just to give the right istruction to the finder?

Anyone?

Mark?

This happens to me on one of my older machines with 10.4 on it. I just use "A Better Finder Rename" to batch rename all the folders without the .RDC
