***"GARBO" Trailer Teaser. RED ONE goes B&W in my Directorial Debut ***

Hi every one,

at last my turn to post some footage of this ground braking camera, "THE RED ONE"

What seems just few days ago, but has actually been weeks I had the pleasure of Directing and creating the mood for a piece about the life story of the one and only "GRETA GARBO", when Yelena Popovic ( as GARBO) approached me together with Malcolm to Direct and illuminate the shooting of the Trailer Teaser of the script that She and Aaron Crowe had written, I was very exited to be part of it, and off course was very pleased that I was able to convince Yelena and the Producer/Executive Producer Alexandros Potter, to shoot with the RED ONE.

In this almost seven minute trailer teaser, you will see Yelena as GARBO, and Matt Stasi as JOHN GILBERT, in a performance shot all in one location in a beautiful downtown LA hotel set back to the early twenties, were this story takes place.

Yelena wanted to have a B&W finish, which our EDITOR, MARK MANNSCHRECH achieved for her in post, we used two RED ONE cameras, (actually only one) as my dear #349 staid in the case all day, thanks to the flawless performance of the RED ONE #19 of our DP, BLAIR S. PAULSEN, the great MU was done by MUA STHEPANIE DANIEL.

RED ONE was set @ 4k - 2:1 - 23.98 recorded on the RED DRIVE, shot with ZEISS Super Speeds, wanted to shoot with MP's but budget didn't allowed for this one, oh well, next time I'm sure.

One thing I like to point out is that all of the scenes were illuminated with the use of LEDZ BRUTE 9 fixtures, and only 4 of them, as MALCOLM MILLS, Vice President of LEDZ, couldn't bring any more do to back orders after NAB.

And obviously every one knows that even so I try very hard to learn everything I don't know much of anything, but I continue to try hard and learn new things every day, and today I learned how to post video clips.

Don't worry in my new studio in Vegas I will always hire Pros!:)

Please forgive the lack of some FX sounds such as is the case for the ZIPPO and the pages, as the limited budget that was given to this project didn't allow for more time in post.
In fact the given budget only allowed for me to hire Blair, as DP, and He had also to take care of audio, and no AC, so on set was pretty much him and I, as Malcolm helped as much as He could, so basically Blair and the MUA were the only paid crew members, and in post Manny was the only other, so this was done with a total of three paid crew members including post, all shot and finished with just over $5,000 budget!

Any way this was in deed my Directorial Debut, as well as it was the first time I litten a Film Set, and done so entirely on LEDz fixtures, I enjoy working with every one and even so the extremely long 12 hours plus 4 hours driving to and back from LA, almost killed me, I will do it again and again, as it was a fantastic experience, and I know there will no be an other First time, so I want to Thank you, Yelena and Alexandros for putting your trust in me, Yelena again and MAtt to let me lead you in such great performance, which I believe both of you would have done so with out me, no problem, but I hope I was able to bring just an extra something out of the two of you thru my directions, to Malcolm for going the extra mile in bringing the LEDz fixtures, and been hands on were needed, from Gaffer to Focus Puller and so on, to Blair for having accepted my invitation to shoot this Trailer in such a short notice, at a low budget and for such long hours, his presence on set and his assistance in the setting up of the shots as well as that of the lighting, was imperative to the shoot, and to Manny that has also chipped in with still a very low budget in post and created a work of art out of our shoot.

I have never felt such weird connection to a tool, a camera, but RED is just something else, so thank you Jim and RED team for your accomplishment, which now will make mines possible, Thank you!

Hope you enjoyed, and if anything got screwed up in any way, IT WAS ME!:whistling:

Looks nice Ketch! The LED-Z seem to worked well. Props to Blair for the camera work.

I'll watch it again later when I'm not focused on analyzing the image.

Thanks Jeff,

yeah don't analize the image as I did a great job screwing it up, compressing it even more then already was, just so I could uploaded on to my host site, not a PRO site for such clips, like RedRelay, but I haven't heard back from them as to register and post on their site, so here it went.

ciao

really love the mood and style in this teaser...like i said to ketch...its so orson.

:) Thanks for your comments Kaya, in the PM I tough you were refering to the post of my new studio.

On their first time even an arrogant Loud :ranting2: Italian that never Shuts up, like me, needs the support of its fellow REDUSERS.

ciao

Ketch, I love the black and white look. I had yet to see anyone post anything b&w but I figured it would look amazing...and it does. Good luck and I can't wait to see more!

Thanks Omar, much appreciated, yes Yelena was very specific about the look She wanted us to achieve, and we did our best. Glad you like it, to lit B&W it is not as I tough it will be on Film but love it!

Looks great Ketch - might have to get myself some of those lights later in the year.

I'm working on a script set in Spain 1909, might be temped now to do parts of it in B&W now when it comes down to shooting the thing - you have given me food for thought.

Congrats.

Andrew.

Thanks Andrew, B&W is something I always loved in Stills and felt confident that I could pass along some technics to this shoot with the RED camera after having seen what RED can do, and yes the LEDz are great and my studio will be 100% LEDz, very Eco friendly as well.

Glad it inspired you, go for it, B&W is still a beauty, and good luck on your project in Spain.

Not a problem Ketch.

I tend to do a lot of B&W stills too, its a great medium (besides i photograph a lot of actors and they all tend to want their headshots B&W to 'cover up' the partying the night before :whistling: )

I've got a giant sad ending to the drama which would be perfect B&W so yeah I probably will now - cool.

Good luck with all the studio developments sounds excellent.

And.

Classic! Really classic work. Great job on the lighting and direction - the whole thing.

I just finished reading a really good Clark Gable bio, so I'm kind of nostalgic for the whole era.

Tom, thank you!!

Most of my friend didn't almost believed that I did this, as they know me as a maniac for Vivid colors and half naked girls, (well not always half naked:blush: ), but this was a great challenge and good experience.

Gable was all that my Mom used to watch when I was a kid, reruns over and over, but in Italian haha, after listening to his movies in English, I crack up when I go back home and listen his voice overs in Italian, and gone with the Wind is the one that Italian TV station play the most, over and over.

ciao

Gable was truly the "King of Hollywood." He led an interesting life and romanced many of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. Even in his 50s he was landing beautiful young actresses like Grace Kelly. You gotta bow down Gable.

Yes, loved the look. Was the audio looped?

Thanks,

Yes it was, but audio unfortunately was not our best that day, but Blair did use a Lavalier from which lots of background noise was picked up, and in fact because of it we lost all the takes in the Bed, do to the high level of noise recorded from the bed covers and shits, and it was recorded on Camera, using Build 15, for what we had, Blair deserves some serious credits on it.

I have to say that some of the Folly is still missing also do to budgect restrictions but we are likely to take it back to Blair's Scratch station and work some more on it, as Blair offered it, and if time and Money allows it then also Manny will be finishing some of the sounds, as in the ZIPPO that does not emit any sound when closed, or the pages that Garbo turns, in the small studio, and such, but still very happy with the results, even so much more can be done with further budget permitting.

ciao

Looks really good, but I find myself wanting a little grain in there, I'm so used to black & white being grany that it just feels wrong when it looks so clean :-)
