"no roll-back of firmware from Build 16 to Build 15 or earlier builds."

Can any body tell me what this really mean?

Updated .R3D file format, Digital Signal Processing optimization, Image Compression Optimization, addition of REDspace and RAW view modes, high contrast scene codec error mitigation, audio polarity and video sync correction, LCD image tearing reduction, Pre-Record Mode, support for 1080p 4:2:2 and RGB 4:4:4 playback of REDCODE RAW .R3D files, User Programmable Keys, RED-EVF menus, Tonal Response Curve, editable LOOK files names, no roll-back of firmware from Build 16 to Build 15 or earlier builds. <<

We really a utility that can set the camera back to virgin status then?

I wonder if it's possible.

From a software view I don't see why not.

Please some one say yes.

My simple brain conclusion.

BETA = TEST = BUGS = BAD Hummm.... VERY BAD

I am not jumping out of this plane without a parachute.

OK, I will wait for the release then.

Bummer

Not worth the risk.

Jim has stated that this "BETA" has been more thoroughly tested and debugged than earlier BETA software. I am figuring that it is "sort of" a release build in that it may still have bugs but is probably as stable as most of the earlier release builds. Can anyone from RED confirm - with the usual caveats - that build 16 beta is probably suitable for most productions other than the most expensive/riskiest shoots?

I suspect they re-wrote the camera bootloader to improve boot times and it can't read the older firmware files.

I wonder if there is a serial connection to the camera.

If there is we can try using the serial port to do a flash back.

Most of my shoots are High Profile and good budgets.

This is not a hobby.

I can wait for 16 release.

tekin.. it sounds like you are freaking out.. take a deep breath and pull yourself together. Build 16 will wait for you when you are ready.

Build 16 Beta (at least internally) so far we have found that it is way less buggy than build 15 release...

LOL

Thanks Jarred, I am not freaking out at all.

Just want to nailed one for the records so people do not cry later.

I hate cry babies.

Personally?

I am on the cutting edge, not the bleeding.

I will wait.

P. S. Thanks for all your help so far. I love this camera.

That is better news. THANKS

Jarred: This is what I wanted to hear - no guarantees - just a realistic assessment.

My nephew is shooting a very low budget short film this weekend. I want to give them the best camera (i.e. build 16) I can but didn't want to have it be overly risky for them either. Sounds to me like for our situation build 16 is a reasonable risk to take.

Will be installing build 16 and new Birger mount tomorrow so lots of exciting stuff (they have some zeiss manual lenses they can use on the birger mount as well).

BTW Great job on all the new features - kudos to the RED team.

Thanks man. Build 16 is pretty much a no-brainer... the new features alone are worth upgrading to let alone the increased image quality.
