So here is what's going on:

I am editing a music video shot on Red, and I need to use multiclip groups.

The Pro Res files are still too big to edit a Multi clip Sequence.

I loaded in the _m proxy and set the compressor to redcode. I want to obviously not have to render out all the footage. It is telling me that I don't have that codec (I downloaded it and installed it).

How do I do this so that the files are small and I don't have tons of render time, but yet I can match back to the original 2k files and online with crimson and Redcine.

Thanks in advance.

You can not write to the redcode codec - only playback and cut (Hence no transitions etc). By trying to multiclip you are effectively rendering a new shot.

You can either:

Batch compress the proxies to another codec using compressor.

Use log and transfer plugin to import.

Render out through redcine/redalert

...to avoid renders and maintain edl compatibility.

I used log and transfer to bring them in, but they are still too huge.

So if i re-render them in compressor as QTs, will they match back to the original 2k and 4k files files with Crimson?

I've had success with multiclips at ProRes resolution. I'm on an octo-3 gig Mac Pro. they were made from the _H size and it plays back fine. But yes if you "re-render" them, though you're not re-rendering you're creating new QTs, all the info will come across in the new clips if you are rendering to the proper codec like ProRes.

I though that using the L&T for red footage would break the associations needed for Crimson to function properly.

I'm more than likely wrong and it's probably been updated as I remember this from a few weeks ago when the L&T first came out.

Nope that's all worked out. I got that to work out fine. It just blows that you can't set what the compression rate should be on the way in to L & T. Oh well, hopefully a future release.
