24 High Definition Shooters/Filmmakers Needed in Toronto - ASAP

Hi there. I’m producing a show in Toronto, where I need 24 High Definition Shooters (prefer Red's if possible) who are creative, capture visually stunning images with a mood and ambiance, are self-motivated, can work within a specific amount of time, can function as a one person crew, can work with a diverse range of material and possible multi-ethnic subject matter, are respectful of others and familiar with working in sensitive locations, and can think like a director, writer and editor in order to tell a well crafted story.

Shoot takes place in Toronto on July 11th, 2008 – all filming will be done within a 24-hour time span.

Think Baraka and Koyaanisqatsi with a twist.

I won't be able to make it up, otherwise it sounds like it could be really cool; but maybe I'm just biased because your SN is "planetearth" and the BBC Planet Earth series made me crap my pants -- and the thought of shooting something like that on RED is mind-boggling.

But just something that struck me about your posting: do we really still live in a world where you have to warn people that they might have a multi-ethnic experience? Sad.

Customs? Last time I shot a job in Canada (I am from USA) I was told point blank don't bother coming back unless I have a Carnet for my gear. Also work permits would need to be supplied. I will PM you about this as well but I thought I would bring this up here as I am interested in other peoples experiences. Canada is a tough country to work in and its a shame for me as I live within 3 hours!

Carnet Doc preparation runs ~$400.00, at least it did last time I worked in Panama.

Price depends on $ amount of gear being bonded. I have another camera package bonded for 85k and it was about $800 in all.

it is wise to get a carnet for any international shooting anyways.....as much for your return home as for getting into other countries....

Just to let everyone know. I really do appreciate all the responses from around the globe. I wish I could hire all the talented shooters out there. The reality is, I need to deal with budget constraints. As a result, the budget just can’t sustain flying people in, accommodations and per diems, so I need to first focus on local Toronto shooters. The hope is this will spin off, and if it does, I will be looking for many more shooters from many countries. I truly hope you all understand and thank you for your interest.

Also, I have not responded to some of the shooters yet, but will be contacting all very shortly.

Taylor, I'm sorry you've had problems with customs. It can be sticky on both sides at times, but usually not that sticky.
