Hi guys

Finaly the clip is online. The artists are: SAD featuring Seven & Stress.
They are the biggest Hip Hop and R&B Acts in Switzerland. Kinda like Usher meets Eminem.

I put it up on redstockshots.com
redstockshots.com is daniel reichenbach's baby (artbeatsart).
Go there and check out the website. It's gonna be a cool place for all RED users around the world.

Here are the links:

Some Infos about the clip:

I directed it together with Samuel Flückiger.
I also was the dp together with Brian Goff (Actioncam).
I did the editing and the colorgrading in color.

We shot all the performence scenes in 4K. All the acting and action sequences were shot in 2K 120fps and some 75fps.
We tried to get that John Woo slomo stuff going. Sometimes we ran a bit out of light, but it worked out fine. Next time I double the lighting setup.

We used the following lenses:
RED 18-50mm
Zeiss Distangon 14mm 2.1
Angenieux 25-250mm 3.2 - 3.9
RED 300mm 2.8
Canon S16mm 8-64mm 2.3

The RED is still the bomb and I cant wait for B16.

Cheers
Tim

Wow! After watching this video I am now convinced Red is a Feature film contender. I felt like I was watching clips from a polished Hollywood feature. Nice work, I am very impressed.

Nice work! Go on Tim!

Cheers.

Pat

PS: what are the horizontal flares on hilights (like on lamps...). Is this a CMO problem? I've allready seen it on the Iphone commercial.

Thanks guys.
Hi Tresch, the flares are fake and made in post.
I like this type of flares like you get with anamorphic lenses.
So we put it in in post to make the images look little more dramatic.

Cheers
Tim

Hi Andrew

We just used after effects with the knoll lens flare pro filters.
Then put the flares on the lightsources and tracked the sources.
Realy easy stuff.

Cheers
Tim

Looks very nice.

The content should be a sort future or the present Swiss society?

good video!!!!!!!!!!!

i had a question if u don't mind, is there any grading limitation to the 12bit in the raw files, or is it totally smooth.
and would u get grading problem like in the link if it was blu-ray encoded?

Hey, Amrrhamy

The colorgrading was done in 1080P in color.
I just did the firstlight in redcine. The RAW files in redcine can handle a hard beating till they break. I'm not sure if fcp color is in 12 bit. But grading was easier than with normal HD footage.
I dont know about blueray footage to date because I never used or encoded it.
Hope that helps.
Tim

that was my fault, i didn't explain it right.

i meant the breaks in the grading(in the raw file), instead of a smooth grading.

how far can u go with the camera, low light setup with in-front of the camera light source and across the screen.

and why did u do the light u wanted in post? what kind of limitation did u get from the camera

and how far can blu-ray encoding deal with grading in general(i was waiting to see that on wall-e when it comes out, that would be the best test for h.264)

Amrrahmy

I didn't get any limitations in the cam because of the lighting.
I just wanted some flares to pop up here and then. That was a post decision.
So we created the flares in post rather on set.
There is lots of information in the RAW files. Build 16 will even be better.
Film is still better but the RED is way better than all the HD stuff around at the moment.

Hi Third Man
Well, the story takes place in a undefined future / society. We didn't want to make any any direct hints to a specific time or place (well actually there is one...). Before writing the script we just talked about Orwells 1984 and then went from there.

Hi SamFlueckiger,

thanks for your explanation.

Then we should only guess where it should be that Orwell's like society...
