  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Canon FD lenses stills and also Dynamic range unscientific tests

Seems like the FD's give a warm color- do you notice that Kevin?

(I like it!)

Very fractionally, if at all. I have compared the spectral performance to several other lens families and find that the FDs (S.S.C. breech mount and later bayonet mount ones) are fairly neutral and remarkably consistent from lens to lens.

For me, consistency lens to lens is much more important than the actual spectral balance when shooting with a camera like the RED ONE since the ability to set a "look" in post is so easy. Resolving power, speed, color consistency and breathing are factors that I put nearer the top of my list of criteria in cine applications. So far, I am very impressed with results of my and other's FDs when paired with the RED ONE.

Hello Tico,

Thanks for the lead on the 17mm! That would nicely round out the bottom end of my set.

How beautiful those frames look!

And very well exposed too. Man, so far, the few samples I've seen from Canon and Nikon still lenses have looked amazingly sharp, with amazing contrast and saturation, much more pleasing to the eye than any of the cine lenses.

Good job! Imagine how much better those images will look with build 16, which Jim has been showing some samples of on Recon and the noise management and color stability is amazing. Antoine, could you post a photo of your Canon mount and a lens on it to see what it looks like?

Sorry it took so long for the photo Rudi...

Here are a few images with the FD mount.
55mm f1.2L
Lightweight!

The tripod...well...skinny for the camera...only for picture purpose.
A Libec H85 will support it this week. :)

Hi Antoine,

Thanks for posting the images. I notice that you installed your FD mount rotated 45 degrees counter clockwise from the normal position (which is fine). Was this to split the focus / aperture mark between the vertical and left hand side of the camera?

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Yes exactly! Good eye!
So it is very easy to see marks when working with someone at the left side and also when i work alone, i can still see the marks from top of the camera. best of both world for me.

Antoine

Hi Bassam,

It is a temporary protection for the camera's small wire.
It is a large rubber band. I didn't have a black one...
Kevin is supposed to ship us a cover for the wire.

Antoine

Wait, I thought you were going to use a red rubber band?
