Hi,

We need to throw our Red up on a 35 foot crane/jib and we would like to use a 35 foot long HDMI to DVI Cable. Has anyone used a cable this long and knows if it works or not? Second question which may be way out of the ball park. Has anyone had a custom Red LCD cable made? I know 35' may be a stretch with a Red LCD cable since both the power and signal need to run down the same cable and at that length there probably is just too much lost in power or signal but curious to see if anyone has made a custom cable longer then 10 feet? Thanks.

I've got a 50' that works fine. I've heard any longer and a power boost is needed.

Got it from newegg. Not sure on the brand. It's fairly heavy duty, and has gold (looking) connectors at both ends.

Agreed. HDMI is a novelty more than anything

running 35 ft HDMI cable ( no power boost) and a 100ft HDMI ( with power boost that came with cable- plugs near end of cable that you plug into monitor) ...

check out gefen.com
"HDMI Super Booster Cables
The HDMI Super Booster Cables are a copper cable based solution with an ingetrated HDMI Super Booster available in the lengths of 50, 75, 100, 125 and 150 feet. The HDMI Super Booster cables will offer the highest resolution possible at any desired length with support for all resolutions up to 1080p. HDMI Digital Audio is also supported by this cable and allows for the highest possible quality A/V experience with zero signal loss.

This plug and play installation takes mere seconds. You simply connect the HDMI cable on one side to your source and the HDMI Super Booster side to the display's cable on the other side. The HDMI Super Booster cable sits between the end of your source and your display. "

HDMI is not a novelty if you want to see drop frame indicator, histogram, audio levels, etc. Hard to look at the LCD when its at the end of a supertechno.

Look for 22AWG HDMI cable, monoprice is a good source. Can run 50ft+ since its only 720P. Suggest you get a right angle adapter - so when grips stomp on the cable at least it beaks the connector in the adapter not on the red.

You can not use most boosters or at least any booster that I've tried. The Red HDMI output is incredibly noisy - not noisy as in picture quality, noisy as in what should be a square wave looks like a rats nest (when in DVI mode). Most HDMI boosters will not accept the signal.

I had to build some simple hdmi reclockers to allow us to to use fibre extenders on the output. We are using a lot of cameras so it made sense, but if your just using one - a scaler that uses a genum or anchorbay chipset should accept and reclock or scale the output - I've use the DVDO VP50pro, but its an expensive solution.

using a 50foot hdmi seems to work ok just got it, last 50footer did not work at all..seems not all cables are the same...

Should it be Hdmi to dvi (24+1) cable or Hdmi to dvi-d (18+1) cable. Also it it male to male pin at both end. Thanks

Well may be some one from RED can advise me on that.

i use a HDMI male to male ... i also have a HDMI to DVI-D adaptor ..

DVI connectors
single link ( up to 1920 X 1200)
DVD-D is digital only .. 18 pins ..
DVD-I is digital & analog .. has the 18 pins plus 4 extra ( analog) =22

dual link ( above 1920x1200)
DVD-D ..24pins
DVD-I ..24pins + 4 extra ( analog) = 28 pins

i assume the "plus 1 " in your post is counting the horizontal like pin ?
