I am one day before the principal photography on the feature film here in Macedonia.
After I change the battery during tests the camera shots down right after I power it up.
Camera was running for an 1 1/5 hour in the temperature of 30 celsius.
Edit:
We checked the temperature and it was 38 celsius.
It's been 30 minutes and I can still not get it to run.
Power on and it shots down.
I tried different batteries and the DC adapter, same thing.

PLEASE HELP

Thanks
Albert

This sounds like a battery issue. That is the only time I have seen it, but if it is happening on AC I think you should contact RED.

Wait a good minute between tries as well.

What is the FAN set to? (in that heat, I hope it was on all the time)

Take cooling precautions. Get the camera in the shade.

Is the body hot?

How far does it get? do you actually see a picture? or just past the initialization screen?

I have contacted Red, and they got back to me quickly.
The camera is in the shade all the time. The fan is on.
We also have some gel pacs on stand by.
I listen to the advise from Red and tried swapping the AC with battery and just by pressing the button on and off I was able to get it going.
I left it for couple of hours at home in normal temperature, booted before going on location and it HAPPENED AGAIN.
This time I can't start it again.
It seams to be doing the same (power, white lcd and the fan goes on for 1 second the shots down)
It does not go to any booting sequence, it really shots down right after the power on (less then a second)
I am quite devastated:(
I may have to cover some costs of the production delays caused by it.

man i feel sorry for you...did you try this vodoo trick....unplug everything, batteries, evf, lcd...then push 5 times the power button with 2 sec between the pushs...then get the battery on, power up...then plug the rest.

Just a thought, try powering up with nothing plugged in!!! (except power), until all the way booted up.

Are you running Release Build 15?

Good Luck!

I have found the battery contacts on the V lock (at the camera) are very prone to any pressure on the battery etc - To the point where even moving the camera caused a shutdown - I had power issues until I "bent" them forward slightly using a pliers (if you are going to do this - do it gently and all the usual caveats apply) - IE: the contacts were a little loose. Might be worth looking at.

Since then no issues. In a future version of the camera perhaps looking at something a little more robust in this area might help.

Albert,

Maybe there is someone in Europe with a RED who can get it out to you for a few days, while your camera goes back and forth FED EX to RED. The only thing I can think of is that there might be a loose board connection or something. Maybe the flight from Montreal to Europe (if you did not carry on).

This is a tough one, but maybe there is a RED owner in the area who can help you out with some back up in the next week or so.

Why don't you start a thread asking some people here to PM you if they can give you a hand or get you a rental in the next two weeks.

Thanks a lot for the support, the camera in my book is dead.
Tried everything....I have to fly to California.
We found someone in Slovenia who will fly in for 3-4 days, it should do before I am back.

It's really not funny on the smaller budget, we're also shooting in the very fragile region of Macedonia and Albany border, so rescheduling is out of question.

Thanks again
Albert

Albert,

If there is anything I can do from Toronto please let me know.

David

David,
Thanks, we have decided to ship it by Fedex.
I'll be begging Red to ship us a replacement.
Cheers

Albert.

Definitely sounds like the batteryplate. Try this.

1. Insert battery, start. Touch the battery and see if it moves, and if tat causes it to shut down. The degree of "touch" may vary.

If that's the issue, try to use gaffa on the plate under the battery along the "V" and on the area close to the connectors to make it fit.

2. Get hold of extra batteryplates.

I've seen this exact issue on several cameras/batteryplates

I think it is happening when using AC power adapter too.
