hi everyone

I just wanted to introduce myself and post a link to a project which could possibly be the first official film thats been shot on the RED in australia, its a short film called "Stray Boys" and we shot it in late 2007. Back then there weren't any REDs officially for hire so we imported RED #31 from LA for the shoot. The amazing guys from Lemac in brissy helped us out with an accessories package, I used Zeiss Mk2 primes as well as the 18-50 RED lens. the project can be found here:

Constructive comments and criticism is appreciated :) mind you please its only a rough cut and the footage has not been graded yet.

thanks

Hi,

Saw it! Very good short! It's hard to write and direct/shoot shorts. Usually they tend to be a wannabe feature with way to long credits etc. This one wasn't.

Great work! Nice execution, very good acting and it had just enough suspense to keep the viewer interested.

regards,

Fredrik Callinggard

thats for your comment fredrik. I was only DOP on this project...not much of a writer...but yeah youre right, a lot of people try to put wayyy to much story and information into a short.
this shoot was great and we were all really excited to use the red. the camera worked very well under those "harsh" conditions....in the early mornings it was quite cold and during the day very hot. luckily the company in LA sent us a guy , who had some experience with the camera, as a technician, he was very helpful.
i was a bit worried cause it as my first HD shoot and i never really worked with a histogram/waveform monitor as exposure judgment before.....i def. need more practice on that one.

there are some behind the scenes pictures in my photoblog at http://www.blacksun-productions.com/blog under Behind the Scenes :)

Dominik. Loved it! The wide shots will look superb on the big screen. Look forward to seeing the graded version.

Well it was beautifully shot with very nice attention to the story. :weight_lift:

As for HD - it was not an HD shoot it was a 4K Digital shoot (or RAW). An often happened misconception :) .

By the way I just screened a commercial I did on the big screen that had gone through a DI process.

IT LOOKED BRILLIANT!!!

To start with I couldn't see the difference between that and the telecine we had done for TV. So hats of for my Post house.

Secondly, RED looked so good. It was the first time I've felt that it looked awesome as a big screen projection of any of my stuff that's gone to the cinema (and I'm talking film). SO MY HAT OF FOR RED!!!

So good luck and I would have loved to be there to see your face when you screen it.

it has indeed, when i came to clifton for the first location reccie, i couldn't believe it, they have this tiny old cinema there from the 60's, with a bleached out film poster in their front window advertising "singin in the rain" :)

Film makers with no better ideas, about teenagers with nothing better to do?

Priceless.

LOL

Love the pictures, great locations, DP, Suspense, and good acting.

For peace sake, find a good story to tell.

You have potentials.

Don't waste it.

Tek

P. S. Audio need work.

I don't know how i missed this post, but thanks for sharing. also wanted everyone to know that some of the shots in this film ended up in the RED Reel for NAB...so congrats on that, pleasure sharing Red #0031 with you.
