hi everyone

i wanted to get your opinion on a short film which I shot last year in Australia. I was one of the first DOP's to use the RED in 2007 over there....we flew in RED No. 31 from LA. The project is called "Stray Boys" and please mind that this is a rough cut with uncorrected footage...this is straight out of the camera...only some minor contrast corrections. constructive comments and criticism is greatly appreciated :)

after shooting with the RED on this project I decided to get my own....last year I worked with RED 31...now I have my own red serial and its up to 4248

Looks pretty good! Gorgeouse landscapes!

The shot of the boy waking up from his bed looks a bit poor, but I guess it can be improved with grading.

hardware: thanks, yeah australia is beautiful.

you picked the right shot, thats the one I really dislike the most as well. had some problems lighting in this very confined room, also the dolly in on the black ute needed some more fill too :/

Australian landscapes are some of the most beautifull sceneries I have ever seen in movies - hope to shoot them someday!

Yeah, real locations can be a pain in the axs when it comes to lighting equipment, especially when you're on a thight budget and \ or schedule.

Anyway, good job! Looking forward to see more!

If you need one in the meantime... you know who to call ;)

Actually, there's a whole local forum further down the page; and I know for a fact there's Brisbane-based owners.

thanks concrete, i cant wait to take the footage into a telecine suite or color :)

cailyoung: haha thanks for the offer, i know lemac have two or three Reds by now and there is at least one privately owned RED on the goldcoast. im currently in germany working on a few projects there. i cant wait to get mine...im waiting for the fedex truck every morning...even though its at least another 4 months...but hope dies last :)
