RedAlert Stutters/Slow with MacBook Pro

FCP plays rendered (ProRes HQ) R3D files perfectly. However, for a quick look with Red Alert on unrendered R3D files, the playback stutters. Red Alert does not crash but is just real slow. Footage was shot at 4K 2:1. Thanks in advance.

My system:
OSX 10.5.2
2.16 GHz Intel Duo
2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
ATI Radeon X1600

i could be wrong, but i think thats normal right? current macbooks can't play back r3d's in realtime i think

Are you playing off the internal HD? If yes have you tried a external FW800 HD?

RedAlert was never designed for real time playback.
