hello so I just wrapped the longest shooting day ever and the last shot the camera stopped rolling mid shot just shut down cold and on reboot the red drive does not work on the camera ad all other red drives and drive cables don't work.... Drive works fine via USB and FireWire so thank god footage is
not lost how can I reset the camera drive port to get it back? It just shows no media when any drive is plugged in right now. Cf slot does work though

I would try pulling the battery to force a true cold reboot.

obin, did you get the port back?

Have you tried to reload the build?

Hope you're back up quickly!

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

leo might be right reload 15...then reboot with drive attached. worth a shot.

fill out a support ticket. They will usually get back to you quickly, even over the weekend.

FSM was by my side.

So I guess I will try the reload of build 15....hmm...any more ideas guys?? gotta get this fixed as next week I go up in a chopper for a full day of shooting and really need a working camera...:)

btw what is the longest day ever for a film?

I put in a 19.5hr had a 2 hour nap and did a 23hr. I was not much use after hr 18 of day 2.

I have heard of people doing 23-25 hr days, and if you talk to the guys who worked in the 80's when OT was paid in Coke, it gets crazy fast. When I was working on hbo's The Wire, we refered to fridays as Fuck You Friday. On monday our call would be 6am, then a 16hr day, turnaround, tuesday call is 9am, 17hr day, etc etc, so by friday your call time was 4pm in the afternoon, and you'd wrap at 7am on saturday, and your weekend becomes just sunday. God help you if friday was the last day of an episode - on the stage, no sun no reason to ever stop shooting unless the OT and Meal Penalties got too ridiculous.

Hope you get your shot back,

Nick

Depends on how continuous you want to be. I once had an absurd deadline where I put in 200 hours straight with 1-3 hours a day for sleeping broken up into one hour blocks. But the vast majority of that was sitting in front of a computer.

48 hour film festival would be my longest continuous production and from my experience whatever I've done somebody has done at least double.

ok installing build 15 again did not help at all...ideas??

You might also want to try to unplug everything from the camera, and with no cables attached press the on off switch 6 or so times to release any static, then turn the camera on.

Some one posted an open red drive a while back and showed how the multi-pin system can come loose from the connection that runs to the drives. They also showed a bunch of pictures and how they snugged up the drive with some foam. I can not find that thread but maybe someone else can. I was very good and the reason they had to open up the drive was because the nut on the inside of the drive case that holds the multi-pin in place had come loose so I think they added some nail polish to help keep it tight.

Found it, had to search nail polish (ha) see link below

if I use the 12v power supply on the red drive the camera will see and record on the drive.... So it seems to be a power supply issue... Any reset switches or breakers on the camera?

Since this issue exists will all your drives, it must reside inside the camera.

Unfortunately, it sounds like a trip to Red is required.

Please let us know what kind of turn-around you experience.

I've not heard of your problem before, so hopefully it's a rare fluke and not an inherent design/build weakness.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

Did ya try a different cable?

yes I have 2 cables, and now 3 drives, not a one works unless I plug the red drive into a mains AC connector and feed it the outside 12v then it works fine on the camera. I am guessing a bad or broken power supply in the camera for the drive. sent the entire camera package back to RED they promised they would make it right again ASAP. :)
