Hello all. I'm trying to bring an EDL from FCP into SCRATCH, but it doesn't seem to be working for me. From what I was reading in the manual, the most important bit is to make sure the timecode matches that of the EDL and the source footage, and I've got that set correctly, but when I try to import the EDL it says "Failed loading EDL." I also have tried putting the source media into the construct. Are there any other parameters to set that I should know about? Is there an exact, step-by-step guide on importing FCP EDLs into SCRATCH? Thanks.

Derf,
Not from the manual but usual basics
typical format for .edl is cmx 3600
Maybe video only.
Single layer multi layer not supported
No spaces in reel names.
When you assemble you have the choice.
Assemble from construct, group or project.
You can send me your edl if off list and I'll check it out.
Or send to Leo at support@assimilateinc.com
hope this helps.

I will be in the similar boat as Derf shortly.
We are shooting first feature with RED. We are planning just do the editing in FCP and take the EDL along with original R3D file to Lab, that has SCRATCH.
We are NO color correction, NO transitions, only EDL
We would like to know what are the precautions that we need to take while generating the EDL and carrying the files to Lab.
Just for everyone sake, can you explain steps to take footage/EDL from FCP to SCATCH

Take a look at Jeff's suggestions - they will definitely get you an EDL that works.

cheers,

Yeah, sorry I haven't replied. Figured out you have to turn audio mapping for all channels off, like Jeffo said. Also, I had "Target video track only" selected. Thanks for the replies.

Derf,

FCP outputs all kinds of crazy mistakes in EDLs. Check for the following:

1) Lines that should be commented that are not. In many FCP EDLS, there is a line that starts with "FINAL CUT PRO" instead of "* FINAL CUT PRO." An asterisk is necessary for any comment line in an EDL.

2) Tape names that go over the 8-character limit in CMX.

3) B-Roll events that are labeled "B" instead of "V," A," or "VA1," etc.

4) Source and/or Record TC numbers that go over the stated frame rate in the FCM line.

There are a few others, but those are a few that I see all the time. On most FCP EDLs, you will need to "cleanse" it before it goes into SCRATCH or any other app that parses CMX lists.

Sounds like someone needs a FCP XML > EDL converter
