  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Where to buy used COOKE or ARRI lenses?

depending on your time frame situation.. IF you can wait 10-12 monthsish..maybe less..maybe more.
I would recommend holding out for either the RED 18-85 which is a honker of a lens.. or grab the red primes.

what is the reason anyone would want a cooke lens when shooting digital? why not nikkor,Angenieux, nikon, canon or Carl Zeiss lens? and what's wrong with the RED primes which is optimized for shooting in RED One? is owning cooke lens all about 'being' elite or is there anything more to performance?

There are many options for lensing with the Red One. It's one of the strengths of the system. Do a search. This topic has been covered MANY times.
No, you don't need Cookes. Or Zeiss. Or Angeniuex. Or Panavision.
Some of us just prefer them...

If one had to order and wait around 10-12 months, what would be the price like?

If you like the 35mm look, shooting with cooke or arri lenses will give you that feel. I just had a discussion with a dop who shot an ad for corona beer using cooke lenses on red one, he said that hd lenses does not give the same feel, look or depth of 35mm. I saw the result myself, it really looks amazing.

is there any order of best 35mm lens set (for use with red) and price comparison? for example....

1. Cook set - USD 98,000 (new), USD XX,XXX (used)
2. Arri set - USD XX XXX (new), USD XX XXXX (used)
3. Red set - USD XX XXX (new), USD XX XXX (used)

Lens prices:

I've recently got quotes on 5 lens options for my RED:

Super speeds used (currently asking 52k)
18, 25, 35, 50, 85
T1.3

Master Prime Equivalent set: 117k

Ultra Prime Equivalent set: 66k

RED Primes 20k

Cooke S4 RED SET 98k
15-40 zoom & 3 primes
T2

So, I threw down for the RED primes, I want superspeeds, but i can't live with paying those kind of ridiculously inflated prices, those lenses are terrific, but OLD! They should be in the RED prime range, not the new Ultra Prime range.

Seems to me like RED has the opportunity to turn the glass world on its ear too, can't wait to see what they do!

At these prices, I'd go for the Master Primes over the SS. They'll pay off much better.
