Hi all, I had have just shot 4k 16:9 and did not know the proxys dont work in that format.

What I have done is using the hdmi output from the camera to generate new proxys with burn in TC and filename. Then we can pull the material in Redcine. using the tc and filename in the edit. It is a manual work but you dont have to render everything, I dont know another way, but its works well.

Now I have my other shotting day backed up on a 3rd party drive, so it is not living on my red drives. I have been trying to copy it back to the red drive but the Red One camera dose not see the files, so I can not play them on the camera to generate my proxys with TC and filename.

I have 2 questions:
1. Is there any other way around this 4k 16:9 problem?

2. Is there any way to copy the material from from my backup back to the red drive, so I can play my other shooting days from the camera.

Please Help me!

Kind Regards
Bjorn Ofeigsson

asfaik you can use the log and transfer plug in to load your footage into fcp.
fcp will generate preres files wich have the same quality as the proxies converted to prores via compressor.

But, I don't believe that the log and transfer plugin will convert the 16:9 footage correctly though. It should have the same crap in the bottom until Build 16 and a new RedCine/RedAlert come out.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Use what log and transfere plugin?

what i quite dont get is why 16:9 makes so much trouble to solve...
whats the reason that since November 07 there is no integration.
just beeing curious

Dose anyone know whot to copy to the red drive again..

but the 2nd question...

Log and transfer does not work with 4k 16:9 proxies, as macville wrote.
If you set render quality and preview quality equal, you can speed up Redcine a lot, there is a post about this somewhere around,
but i don´t know how the title was.

Dear RED and Apple,

Any updated ETA on 16:9 proxy support? Is it dependent on the new code in build 16 before any new plug ins are written?

"Did you copy the two camera files (.log?) from the red drive's root level?"

Yes I did copy them too.
Have you heard that it is possible to do this, to move material from 3rd party HD to the Red drive and play it for the camera?

Thank you for this quote. It will be help full. It looks like I have to render an hour of 4k 16:9 to 1080p tiff seq. It is realy time consuming:D

Hi bjorn,

major issue with 4K 16/9 is that it only work with redcine and as far as I know redcine has a major bug with footage shot in anything but 24fps, as it doesn't show a right timecode with 25fps, neither will it render. The trick is to change manually the tc of every clip in the library tab of redcine, then choose your offline resolution, scale, choose your offline qt codec and the quality of the debayer and render.
Avid DV100 in SD resolution and draft debayer is nearly real time on 1 desktop computer.
Then do your offline edit with fcp and use crimson to go back to redcine and render in full debayer quality 1080p tiff 16bit only the frames that are in the final edit

hope it helps,
antoine.

Log and transfer will not work 100% because it involved Quicktime.

Quicktime is the problem.

Bad Idea.

P. S. I am keeping this one in house. LOL, I will do the 4k-16x9-to-QT-Prores conversion for a fair price.
