  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anton/Bauer battery deal for RED users

If you want to stick with the V-mount you could follow the IDX path -
http://www.idxtek.com/endura.htm

The batteries have 2 removable internal cells that allow for air transport and cheaper replacement. I saw these at NAB last year and they weigh about the same as RED batteries. The only downside is that they won't communicate with the camera, but then neither will AB batteries.

Thanks for the link Sean,

but now I'm even more confused, this is something I know very little about, and with the extensive traveling that I'll do I need to make sure I get the right ones not only for traveling restrictions but also for good integration to the RED workflow.

Now as both, AB and IDX won't communicate to the camera then must have and led like on board to verify battery life.

At this point AB or IDX look no different to me and I could go one or the other, unless some one tells me differently.

There is a big difference. The Anton/Bauer batteries have an on-board microprocessor that relays the remaining run-time to the RealTime LCD. The LCD will show you remaining run-time in hours in minutes (digital) and also a secondary gauge which is like your gas gauge on your car (analog). The IDX and any other battery out there, only has an LED indication which is usually reliant on voltage, not actual remaining run-time.

Thanks pdu,

I also just found out that regulations might go even further against Lithium batteries allowances on planes, so I don't want to risk investing in products that I might have problems with.

I still have a question about the compliance of the AB with the environment regulation in Europe ( RoHS ), as were getting also very strict as far as the substitution of the use of lead, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, mercury, PBB and PBDE in all high-tech products.

But anyway even so I wryly don/t like the way the AB look (sorry) and their heavyweight packing and I would very much so, prefer to go with the RED bricks, I do see that going with the AB, it is likely the only safe way ( at the moment ) for any of as that will do any traveling.

Thanks Mitch, pdu and sean for your help and info in this matter.

Anton/Bauer is in the process of making all of their products Rohs compliant. Some are already done, and others just need a few last components sourced.

One option would be Dionic 90's along with a QR-Hot Swap-GM as other people have been referring to.

And yes, strong rumors indicate much tougher li ion travel regulations coming October 2008.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend..if there is any left!!

Thanks pdu,

there is plenty left, you enjoyed as well.

I'll look in to the Dionic 90's and hot swap mounts as well. I surely wan't buy any AB that are not RoHS compliant.

EDIT: Just seen the specs on the Dionic 90, it has lithium even so it is in the guide lines of admission I do not want to go with them as the regulations change it is yet unknown and could end up been not good as well, so to be safe no lithium batteries at all!

Does AB or RED provide the 4 pin 6p LEMO male cable for AC powering from AB chargers

Pablo

Anton Bauer nor RED offer the 4 pin XLR to 6 pin Lemo male cables.
on our latest shoot with TAEGET we made our own, in order to fly our camera on a Super Techno crane.

This configuration is very useful and excepts any larger block batteries.

See Pix's

Anton/Bauer manufactures a 3 meter long cable, which goes from 4p XLR to 6p LEMO (straight connector). The list price on this cable is $279.00 and they are a stock item.

If you buy the Anton Bauer CINE VCLX or VCLX/2 block battery from Abel in the RED kit we created, the CA-RED power cable is included in the price.
