  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Finnerknowsbest.com

Does Finner know Monstercine? We love the Hoff!

Finner definately needs to get to know Monstercine gear better. My steadi guy feels he will find it really useful. I will be in touch

Nice job Finner! I really liked the Matrox, I will be checking that out. I think your page is going to be very useful for everyone! I would love to see you do some more monitor solutions.

The Matrox unit does look handy, it's nice that it's battery powered, but the unit itself seems a bit bulky. Well, I guess not considering the various conversions it offers.

I think I'd want to actually take the Matrox for a test drive before I form a real opinion of it. For setting up client monitors and video village monitors, it could be a great little unit.

I really like the matrox box a lot. It appears to be built very rough and tumble which should make it great for set. BNC is the only real sturdy cheap cableing option comming off the camera in my mind and the Matrox box allows you to take advantage of pretty much any cable conversion you can think of to monitor the footage.

I understand the desire to test one Jeff and we hope to get our hands on one soon and we will do a www.finnerknowsbest.com review and video of how it works for us.

Hey I got an idea! You guys are all brilliant with photshop and such, mayby one of you could animate the Finners avatar so it's doing the Royal wave. You know that little side to side thing the Queen mum does.

Oh yeah and mayby throw a few dancing corgis in there to boot.

Didn't Jim at one point plead Finner to change his avatar. Now it's getting immortalized in web site that will be viewed by all... Jim's worst nightmare! :)

By the way, great job, Finner. I really liked the tone and content of your site. Now if you could adopt the smartassness of Engadget you would be all set.

great collection - thanks.

Any chance that the Finner might look into lens options?

Like Red lenses vs. Nikon mount vs. Birger/Canon vs. 2 nd hand PL mount lenses...

Hi Martin

Thanks for your kind words.

There are so many new products that will assist and support red shoots in so many ways that we have decided to focus in on those items. There have been a lot of various lens tests done here on reduser already so we will steer clear from that for a while. I find that lenses are such a personal choice and feel that it is tough to actually recommend them. The one great thingabout reduser though is if you post up a thread asking what do you all think of the "**** lenses" you will get a lot of answers from many shooters that have used them and their thoughts.

All this said the plan for finnerknowsbest is to expand and cover as much as possible. We feel video reviews will be one of the most effective ways to show the benefits of various products.

cheers

It's a great idea, we need a good noise filter for 3rd-party developments.

One suggestion: can your web czar make the manufacturers' websites self-standing, so that it is easier to return to finnerknowsbest.com? Since we are browsing through many 3rd party websites at one sitting, it would be more convenient and user-friendly to just close the mfg window and have yours sitting underneath. You are the mall, they are the shops, and having separate windows would help to distinguish the spaces and make it faster to navigate.

Red Box and ReddBox are two different products, aren't they? Hard to keep all this stuff straight...

Meryem,

I'm on it! didn't even think about that because I open every link I have into a new Tab these days.

hopefully I'll finish the Lust-o-meter this weekend too!

Ya they are different products Meryem. The Red Box I am talking about on finnerknowsbest is a 32 processor render farm that should eliminate the rendering bottleneck that eats up so much of post production time. The Red Box is almost out of development so I hope to have one soon and be able to report back on finnerknowsbest with some videos on the advantages and results we are getting with it in our post workflow.

You can check the Red Box out in the link below.

Right click link and then "open in new tab". That way you can have all open and go back and forwards between them. Firefox is best at this but explorer im sure has it and safari has a version as well.

Yeah... I've set the links to open up in a new window... or TAB depending on your browser.

FYI I'm working on FinnerKnowsBest2.0 it's going to have way more functionality even a chance to Comment on Finners reviews... so if you think he's a douche bag then you can tell him so right on our website... lol

It should be available in the next week or so. The Lust-o-meter will be in the 2.0 as well.

Yah, i know how to do this -- it's just that when i'm shopping, one button shopping is easier than several. You want to appeal to your impulse clicker.

You people clearly don't spend enough time at the mall.

Dumo, I like your new avatar's devilish eyeball flirt. Do I detect an eyeline with Finner's thong?

Heh. Hehheh.

That's actually what those large teeth are for.

hahah gad... it was bad enough I had to spend 5 days in a hotel room with Finner while at NAB.

Anyway, I've completely overhauled finnerknowsbest.com I haven't got comments to work properly yet but the site will get a lot more functionality over the next few weeks. Once we get some stuff to review we'll be posting how to videos and posting them as well as pictures...

Your link doesn't work.

By the way, your website is a nice idea put I find it a shame there are so few products and no comparisons. For example, you could compare the U-Grip to Blue handles or Zacuto handles. Or ET's bridge plate to Simvideo's Toe piece, etc.

Cheers,
Damien

Earthling...

The link doesn't work because I just went live with the new website... the new site is all PHP driven and the old links aren't labeled the same. Here is the new link. http://www.finnerknowsbest.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=27&Itemid=92

Once more companies send Finner gear for us to review the website will grow. We can only review what people have sent us. As far as doind comparisons.... that's something we've been talking about but we haven't had a chance to use competing products yet.
