  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Can I have some Torx screws?

Yup, based on customer feedback, we are making a running change to Torx Plus screws for our mounts. We are getting some extra Torx Plus screws for the mounts (both PL and NIKON) at RED so we can send along to anyone who needs them. We will also try to include the key you need to install them. Give us a little time to get that ready and we'll start sending them out to those who request them.

Please feel free to PM me if you'd like to be added to the list to receive these and indicate your mount type and ship-to address.

Thanks, BC

Are Torx screws less prone to being stripped? Just curious as to why people wanted them.

Much less prone to get stripped.

Ok, here is the deal...

This are not Torx screws, but rather Torx Plus screws. There is a difference.

This means you can not buy a standard T10 driver, you will need a IP10 (or TP10) driver.

The screws for the PL MOUNT are Torx Plus M3 x 18mm. The screws for the NIKON MOUNT are M3 x 10mm. While I wish they were readily available at hardware stores, you aren't going to have a ton of luck finding these as they are pretty rare. Not saying that if you need them to not look, but just call ahead to see if they might have them.

As I mentioned in my previous post, we are working on making little Torx Plus screw and driver kits to send out. We should have the PL MOUNT ones soon, but it is going to be a little while (ie, weeks) before we have in the screws for the NIKON MOUNT. Just setting delivery timeline expectations...

Everyone, thanks for flooding my Inbox with PM's for the Torx Plus :)

Sorry if I am not replying to each one with "You are on the list" - but know you are and I will have them shipped as soon as they are ready to go out!

With the likeness of changing lens mount more often can RED advise the torque setting for the torx plus screws in Nm please.

Please tell me why the Quick Time cannot play media

Please tell me why the Quick Time cannot play media

I shot with the resolution 4k (16:9) and 4k (ANNA) and then I saved to laptop (MacBook pro). There was something wrong when I played the media by Quick Time (version 7.4.5). The media was lost half of screen. Please advise.
Thank you.

Djtech,

I don't know what RED sets their torques at for different screws but according to Metric Screw and Tool Co. the maximum torque a 3mm pitch machine screw should be set at is 1.5Nm for a class 8.8 quality screw, 1.7Nm for a class 9.8, 2.1Nm for a class 10.9 and 2.6Nm for a class 12.9 screw. Now these are recommended max. torques for the screws themselves and not for the material they are being screwed into. A class 8.8 is about the same as an imperial class five screw. I would not use anything lower then that for camera construction.

Also, for those trying to figure out what the heck a Nm (Newton Meter) is compared to real world (read Imperial lol) torque measurement. One Nm equals 8.850748 pound-inches. For all you old farts like me that use to be called inch pounds. And one pound-inches equals .1120948 Nm

The Metric Screw and Tool Co. is a good source for metric hardware and has a nice little technical section in the back of their catalog.

Their address is:

Thanks Chuck
So do we know what the class quality is of the supplied screws? But I still would like a number in Nm and or Pound-inches with a +/- % from RED.
