Hello,

I'm trying to solve this annoying problem in FCP6 right now where when I try to render on-the-fly from the timeline to view titles, etc and whenever I see the "red" bar on the timeline. When I press Command R, a window pops up saying:

"Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card."

When I press play, the preview window goes Green for the areas with the Red bar on top.

I'm using a 8-core 2.8Ghz Macpro with 8GB of ram and have the FCP RED plugin installed already. Any help would be great!!

Hi did you ever figure out the render issue with FCP? I'm having the same problem, but can't figure out why

Sounds like you are in a redcode sequnce which is play only. To render fx change your sequence to proves. Also for playback enable rt as dynamic, set playback quality to low, turn off scrub high quality. You should get smooth _H playback on an octocore...

Right,

you cannot render to REDCODE, you have to edit in another format. Thats why its sometimes easier to transcode all your Offline files to Pro res first so you can edit normally.

Norm,

That is one of the "limitations" of REDCODE: it is only an acquisition format/codec. You cannot, as of today, render an R3D. :bye2:

The only possible way today, that I know of so far, will be Cineform Prospect 4K, which I hear will be available as soon as the SDK is released by Red. It will allow you to convert and R3D file (RAW) fo a Cineform RAW (4:4:4)! That RAW file can be transcoded either as avi or mov files, and be edited and rendered back as RAW.

Maybe one of the things that are holding the Build 16 is that: having R3D capable of not just be an acquisition format, but also a "renderable" codec (i.e., be able to create R3D files from a NLE sequence).
