I have a quick question about the FCP Log and Transfer of .R3D files.
After I have logged and transfered the .R3D files into FCP and did my edit will I be able to, at a later date, make an EDL of that edit and use scratch to do a DI using the original .R3D files?

I want to make sure that I can before I go down that road.

Thanks
Christopher

Yes, you can. Once you have transcoded your footage through the L&T window your quicktime files will maintain the source timecode from the original r3d's allowing you to export an edl to Scratch for a conform and CC. It will also work with Crimson as long as you don't rename your clips from the original files or the quicktime transcoded files.

Thanks,

I thought that but just wanted to make sure as I am not an editor and know enough about FCP to get myself into a lot of trouble.

From my experience it won't work with Crimson if you are setting in and out points with the L&T plug-in.
It may work if you import the whole clips though.

Definitely doesn't work through Crimson, maybe soon... But not today.

It does work through Crimson, if you don't set in and outs. I spoke with Ian about this and he said he will be enabling a fix for this shortly. I have tested and used this process of L&T to ProResHQ and Conformed in REDCINE through Crimson. It works if you transcode the entire clip.

How long is the FCP Log and Transfer of 4k .R3D files to 2k pro res. i am praying that it is 1 to 1. I'm on a quad core g5 8 gig of ram.

It's the same as a render out of either Final Cut or Compressor. On an 8 core machine, that's about 3:1.

It's pretty fast on a 2.8 Imac.
