Hey Jim or Red team,
Just curious, If we have an Idea we think would be a revolutionary product to be used with the Red product line but don't want to spill the beans on it all over this blog, who would we talk to.
Best,
- Peter

Along the same lines, I am curious about Red's stance on Trademark rights when using the Red name or logo either in the product name, domain name or marketing materials. Is there an officially listed policy online?

If it has to do with cameras, we are pretty protective.

We don't have time right now for the hundreds of great ideas that you guys have out there that require an NDA, negotiations, etc. Wish we did. We are just too busy. We do listen to free ideas on this board however. :)

As a side note, I can't tell you how many times at Oakley we had people come in with great ideas we were already working on. We had to prove it to them immediately so they wouldn't feel like we lifted their idea. It was a pain in the ass.

Event in Paris...

Event in Paris...

On a slightly different track, dear Jim, if you ever consider coming to Paris for a Red event, showcase, whatever Red presentation, I own a beautiful space right in the center of paris which I rent for a) tourist rental, b) film and photo shoot and c) events... It's pretty popular during fashion weeks and a lot of companies came for various press events (Samsung, IBM, Microsoft, Linda Farrow and David and Victoria Beckam for their sunglasses collection ;)

And it's got magnificient red furniture!

You might want to check it out: www.loftfactory.net

Or even just to chill out in beautiful Paris with your family...

PS: my schedule is very tight but like everything in life, it changes... including reservation dates... :)

fantastic looking place lewis.

Great place! Too bad the euro is so high vs. the dollar right now or I'd rent it for a week!

Cheers,

Rob

That is to bad, this once is pretty sweet. ;) If its doable that is...

Hi Jim,

Here is a free one:

Special RED Edition Oakley Sunglasses (with a red frame of course). Don't know the break even for the R&D of a model but you sure got a few thousands sales right here.

(I can't believe I'm the first one to think about that)

After that, all will be needed is a secret RED handshake. :sarcasm:

You're not the first to think of that one... It was discussed over a year ago, some people even made photoshop mock-ups.

Oh, and there's a secret RED handshake too. Or so I am told.

Lewis-I'd love to hear rates, too. (Esp a discounted "friends of RED rate:glare: )

We may be doing a trip there later this year.

Great looking place.

Kevin

Peter,

There are a lot of ideas in development out there so I suggest you hurry or share your idea with the forum and a company like us or Element Technica can get the product, if we think it's doable and wanted, to market sooner than later. We're working with ET right now to develop some new products because we have similar ideas, but different angles and resources to share. In fact, we're even letting each other know what we're working on so there's no overlap in order to protect our businesses and remain profitable in a small community.

Like Jim said, there's probably an idea in the works somewhere that is close to yours and it's a HUGE hassle to prove people that you're not stealing ideas they want to submit, yet we as developers of products don't want to expose our new ideas too early in fear of getting ripped off... Ideas are easy; getting them funded, designed, prototyped, tested, manufactured and off to market are huge hurdles.

In the long run, if you're not a manufacturer, I think it's better to just expose your idea, let somebody else make it, then enjoy their hard work and support them by buying one for waaayy less than it would take to develop it yourself.

Clarification on Trademark Issue

Clarification on Trademark Issue

Jim

To clarify, I meant in terms of services, software and accessories related to RED cameras. For example, I noticed a lot of companies calling their third party accessories "The Red This" or "The Red That" and many web sites for renting cameras, providing commercial services or software that have "RED" in the domain name or service name.

This question isn't for myself, I am just hoping to prevent some third parties a lot of headaches and frustration if Red Digital takes a more aggressive stance on trademark rights in the future. Case in point is RedBoxx. If Red Digital wants to come out with a similar product in the future, there would be substantial "confusion" in the marketplace. RedModz.com and digitalredcamera.com are other examples.

Please clarify if you have time.

Thanks,

-shooter
