Is there a time limit or conditions on the restocking return option?
For instance could we return a RED under the scheme, a few months after taking delivery?

On the subject of restocking will the restocked REDs be available for sale as "B" "demo" stock?

Looks like there are plenty of people that would want to buy your used RED ONE in the open market...

Jim

According to the invoice I received:

RED Return Policy said:
Cameras may only be returned for refund within 10 days of shipment from Red Digital Cinema and with less than 25 hours of run time. Accessories, except Digital Media Batteries, may be returned for refund within 10 days of shipment from Red Digital Cinema.

You should have no problem selling your red i would buy it.

Do you want to sell your Reds Mike?
I know someone who is interested in buying :w00t:

You sell?

PM me...
Whoa, I haven't taken delivery.

I read clause 7a without applying clause 7 to it. So now I get it, RED terms state no refunds after 10 days if camera is working as per factory specification or intention. (my phara phrasing)

Jim, with respect, who knows what the used market for Reds will be in 8 months time after say 2000 more REDs have hit the streets, especially if the camera still happens to be buggy.

Can a buyer at time of purchase stipulate a criteria for reliability/bugfree operation over the course of a year under this following clause "Product cannot be rejected by Buyer based on criteria that were unknown to Red or based on test procedures that Red does not conduct."

The only warrenty detail I can find in the terms is that the camera will be "good quality and free of material defects"

"Material defects" is plain enough but the phrase "good quality" needs clarification in respect to reliability and is the crux of the matter.

I think we have demonstrated the keen interest to take care of our customers. And, as far as I know, we have never had a customer return a camera because it was buggy... even though we have acknowledged being on bug-patrol. The list of features grows everyday and the list of bugs shrinks. But the cameras are shooting features and have turned into real work-horses. Day in and day out.

If you are concerned that we will not take care of you or that you can't live with any errors, problems or issues whatsoever... I suggest you wait or buy something else that is perfect. :-)

Given that RED will give $17,500 for a RED ONE trade in for an EPIC I think it's virtually guaranteed that RED ONE's will have a strong resale value as there will certainly be EPIC buyers who don't own RED One that wouldn't mind saving $1500 or so on their purchase by picking up a used RED and trading it in.

In addition, I think most RED buyers are now going into their purchase with their eyes wide open so I'll be surprised if people start "dumping" RED's. What will they buy in its place? In addition, RED keeps improving the workflow etc.

So with respect, I think I know what the resale value of a RED will be. Strong.

what does sony , panasonic etc do with the above ??
they all attempt to fix it under warranty for X months/years ...

Who cares about resale value.

It's a tool, to enable you to create.
What you create is the most important thing.

Whether it's RED ONE or EPIC, they are different tools for different application.
Just as every artist needs a different brush and a selection of paint pallet.

I know I will be keeping my RED ONE and purchase the EPIC as well.

Jim thanks for expanding our tools.

Jim injected the concept of resale value into this thread not me.

I don't care about resale value as much as being able to return the camera to the manufacturer if moderatly serious bugs don't get fixed.
Anything that causes a shot to be lost is a good example.

In part answer to the question what do Sony and Panasonic do, the industry has evolved over time a level of acceptance for what bugs are and are not acceptable in both new and then more established pro kit.

The current reliability of REDone is below existing industry standard, but given the circumstances this is being accepted through goodwill of REDone owners and the industry as a whole understands the technolgical feat of building a 4k camera.

Jim is offering a unique camera on the unique basis that it "ain't quite right now but it will be", for numerous reasons I'm willing and excited to take up the offer but prudence and experience dictates a "get out" clause if the camera is still buggy 11 months after buying it.

A rock solid build 16 would close this tread!
