Hi all,
Couple of questions I'm trying to answer for a client -
1. Will Epic have a widescreen mode like 5.5K
2. What size stills files will be achievable compared to Red1

#1 I can't answer. #2 a 5K sensor should have about 5120 pixels in the widest dimension. In stills we'd call this roughly a 16 megapixel camera. You should get a decent 11x17 inch print if you were using it in stills mode. The R1 is only about 11 mega pixels. There is a pretty significant jump in the number of photo sites from 4K to 5K.

Answer to #1 is no, the sensor is only 5120 pixels wide. 4.5 was added with R1 because there were pixels there that weren't originally being used for whatever reason. You can't add them later.

Where'd you get that?

If every single pixel on the sensor is available in stills mode you've got -

5120x2700=13.8 million

The reason 4.5K was added with R1 was the option to record the lookaround area. There will probably be a similar option with Epic I would expect, but it can't be wider than the actual sensor pixel width.
