The first couple of shots aren't timelapse but they do look kind of cool and fit. All these shots were shot with Nikon primes 20mm, 35mm, 85mm. The last shot moves a little in the middle because I was trying to get the bugs away from the lens and I bumped the camera. I'm going to have to fix it because there's no way I'm going to lose that shot.

Gorgeous footage Thank you nik'y footage. Exposure setttings? On your next shoot, could bless us with skintone shots? Thanks.

Holy Shit Drew... That was f**ing amazing work! I love that shot at the end.. Great music choice to. Who was that? I have no doubts about the Nikon mount after seeing that footage.. Simply stunning work.. Did you grade in Redcine? Like to hear more.. It was weird because I just read an article that Albert Hoffman just passed away today & then your video was finished downloading.. Reminded me of him

Nice stuff.
Beautiful clouds at end.
What speed dyou shoot the water at? And what kind of apertures did you choose for each shot?

(those damn bugs:))

Nice to see some still lenses in action

Cheers

The water was shot at 120fps with I think a 1/500 shutter. Most of my apertures were around F8...it was very bright out there. I'm still waiting on my MB-20 to come in and get some ND's for that. The second and third to the last shot I did throw an .9 ND that I had from my DVX days. Since the camera was angled up a little it just sat in the lens hood. I know its ghetto but it still worked. Most of the stuff with the clouds I was using a shutter between 1/500-1/1000.

The music is Cliff Martinez from the "Solaris" soundtrack. Glad you liked the footage man. The last four shots were from the Observatory. That place is so awesome to go to. Plus the people that go there are nice and the Red always gets questions. Just make sure you go there on Monday when its closed.

I did grade in Redcine but of course the H.264 conversion brings up the gamma a little bit. So just imagine it with a little more contrast in some of the shots. I can't wait to try some grading in Color when that gets all squared away. BTW, the shots towards the end were all the 85mm. That lens is really amazing.

I did have some problems on the output from Redcine. Seems like the program doesn't like to go from 4K to 2K when outputting. Every time it would crash Redcine. After trying a couple different ways and after trashing the preferences a couple times. I went and would do the 4K files with in and out points and then the 2K the same way and then back to the 4K. I was also using Crimson, which is an awesome program. So I would edit 2K proxies in FCP and then export and XML to Crimson and then take that into Redcine.

Nice stuff! Gives me a little more confidence in using Nikon lenses...of course cinema lenses are better, but still looks great.

Optically and compressed for the web, I'm not sure.. These tests prove that Nikons, when used properly, look as good optically as cinema glass. The differences will lie in the mechanics, but I think for stock footage and real indie work, Nikon glass will be awesome - The option of even using it is amazing

Guys, the Nikons are rocking. I love the cine glass and own a nice zoom, but I got to tell ya, it's so much fun running around with the Nikons. The key thing is to make sure you get good ones. Tried one out today that wasn't part of my kit and it had image shift. If you use ones with good glass, and good mechanics, they are truly a great fit for this camera. I'm going to add more to my collection. I'll have a graded version of the test movie I posted the other night using a workflow similar to what Drew is using.

Great work Drew!!!!

I'm trying to put together some still frame grabs and clips to put on our rental site so potential clients can see what's possible. Can I use your work? I'll obviously credit you for it and place a link to your site.

Thanks guys for the compliments. For the most part the footage is very sharp. The only thing that's a little soft are the first two water shots and that's all my fault...not because it was shot in 2K.

I'm not sure what to think about this. As long as you or your company isn't implying that these shots were created by you or your company I don't see a problem with it.
