I received my Ugrip RED Package today. The Ugrip gear is beautiful, very well engineered and manufactured. I am extremely impressed with the quality of the product. I quickly installed the handles and drive cage to my RED, see attached photos. The handle system is infinitely configurable, and it is very easy to quickly get it into a comfortable configuration. The kit comes with a hex tool for setup and adjustment and the system uses only one size hex head.

The kit comes in its own laser cut Hardigg case and includes;
Handle Kit
(1)Base
(4) side arms
(2) medium handles (shown)
(1) Long handle
(1) Short handle
(1) 19mm adapter

Drive Cage
(1) Adjustable drive cage
(1) 19mm Adapter

The drive cage (which can be used for many things including wireless mics, etc) has 4 large thumb screws for locking the drive in place + multiple hex head adjustments to configure the specific size you need. The entire system is modular so you can add additional parts as needed.

Unfortunately my kit had a missing 19mm adapter and the laser cut case was not cut specifically for this kit, so some of the parts do not fit properly.
I contacted UGrip and they immediatly responded and I was told that the missing 19mm adapter would be express shipped. They also stated that future kits would be laser cut to accommodate the Red kit. Hopefully they will ship me new foam for my kit.

Overall I am very impressed and pleased with this addition to my kit.
I'll post more after I put the kit thru a real shoot.

I have been using a similar kit for a while. Works well.

I ordered at NAB, they offered a show special of $1285 for the entire kit. Its normally $1512.00

I ordered directly from Ugrip at their booth, but they told me today that B&H now carries the line.

Good stuff, they demoed the kit at NAB for me as well and from what I saw its rock solid. I really liked the hard drive cradle which can be used for other hardware as pictured but its well designed, low profile and again rock solid.

I'm pissed... I was at their booth, talked to the Ugrip guys for nearly half an hour during my back and forth with the guys at ViewFactor and some other Redusers that we ran into there.. They gave me an order form for the Ugrip kits and there was no mention of the $1285 price. That sucks. Grrr...

Wonder if they'll still honor it, I'll ask, I still have the NAB order form.

That sucks Jeff.. I checked out Ugrip too but was having too much fun over at Viewfactor to even inquire about their package.. oh well

can i replace the whole base prod. set with the Ugrip stuff....

meaning the craddle/handles/Batteryquickplate/Bottomplate etc.

or is it ugrip + 19 mm ET baseplate?

We have one too. It's amazingly light and well built. We use it for our lightweight handheld configuration and it works great!

You're running that steadicam setup a little heavy aren't you Anders? I hope you have a pretty strong back.

Back
no, not at all. If you feel pain in the back, your posture is wrong.

Front of thighs
Yes, no pain=no game :-)

This setup is still within my "comfort zone", or something I'd want to carry for a full day without problems. Im still admiring the guys that can carry the genesis class cameras, and still look halfway human...

I use an additional back support belt with my rig.

Ugrip Vs Arri

Ugrip Vs Arri

Hey Greg & Anders, great info and pics, a couple of questions..Im used to using (no doubt as you are) the great Arri adjustable handles, do you feel like you miss the adjustable 'height' (i guess you would call it) to be able to have one handle further away or lower than the other? also i presume you adjust these handles by twisting them in and out of lock? therefore do you feel or ever had them unlock on you while shooting?

cheers

Jason,
I havent used it enough to miss the adjustable height yet...give me a few more months.

The handles require a hex key to adjust, and once tightened are rock solid. The kit does come with two additional handles (one longer and one shorter) as well.
