  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

can anybody help?

we´ve a big and urgent to solve problem. we shot a music video and now do the crimson workflow, but by doing the export from redcine and roundtrip back to fcp we get some frame offset problems. in the beginning its sync but cut by cut it´s getting a-sync by starting with 1 frame offset, 2 frames offset and so on...

Just discovered the same (or at least a similar) issue here - our first Crimson conform as well, so maybe we're both doing something stupid!

I've found that each conformed clip has one extra frame on the end of it - so whilst it's not tons of fun, and definitely needs sorting for long form work, it's possible (assuming the problem you're experiencing is the same as ours) to trim a frame off of the end of each clip to regain sync. Bit of manual labour, but not a huge problem in the short term, hopefully.

Be great to work out what's going wrong with this workflow though - we're so close to having a perfect workflow worked out, and this is our last issue (I think!) to solve...

The solution is already in: Just activate handles and put "-1" in the end frames field.

You don't actually need this. You just think you do ;)

Ian

We had the same issue when we exported our conform with seq. DPX to the smoke. I trimmed and all was ok.

I don't get the "you don't actually need this" part.... perhaps a movie quote that went over my head?

Since an EDL should be pulling frames based on the timecode in the header handles and extra frames should not affect the conform.

I had the similar problem ONLY when my Redcine project framerate was off, I was sending 25 It was set to 24 and I had exact same issue... Black frames, Gaps etc...

That's actually a slightly different problem I think x86 - this is with project framerate set to 25...

Thanks for the fix Ian - it's handy when you're doing something a little off the wall workflow-wise and you're not conforming via the EDL/XML with handles etc - we just did an MV that is entirely GS and the CG guys just wanted a frame-accurate Anim codec QT with the whole piece as one video file(!), which caused a few hours of trimming on my behalf! Not any more...

Ah yes true, but getting a linear sequence of DPX's into smoke is a hell of a lot easier than trying to get smoke to relink to those files especially if the file names were changed, made into subclips ect. Crimson seems to have a great way of looking for the correct R3D filename and ignoring that someone added anything to it.

Saying that I haven't even bothered trying to relink the EDL from FCP with the DPX sequence I imported. I guess I need to try that as soon as I get back to the office....tomorrow.
