I have noticed that many people list names instead of serial # for their RED ONE. Now I can imagine the first few prototypes would have a names, but is this some kind of option when You order your camera to have the serial # replaced with name of my choice (providing is available)? Or are you guys just filling in your camera's "pet-names" in the serial number field...

If there is an official list of names (related to serial #) I would like to see it. Please post what You know and I will keep the list bellow updated:

Red # / Red name / Red owner

1(?) - ??????? - Jim Jannard
??? - Dublin - Graeme Nattress
199 - Aeryn - Evin Grant

Boris and Natasha were the first prototypes that Crossing the Line was shot on. The next set of prototypes were named after cities. So Dublin is an R&D prototype camera.

Speaking of names, it is really helpful to us at RED if you actually have your real serial number attached to your profile. If someone has a concern or issue and expresses it in a post, I like to be able to quickly identify what camera they have (or have on order). I cannot tell you how many times I have PM'ed "What camera number are you?"....

I can totally see where You come from.

Therefore I hereby officially request any moderator to delete this thread in its enterity, as:

A) there is already another equal thread and I don't want to pollute the board
B) I don't want to promote a practice that makes the life of RED's engineers that much more complex

PS: It will be nice if the person who started thread could "LOCK" (freeze) its own thread and request its elimination by moderators if he/she has valid reasons...

Jarred already had the foresight to make this a part of the User Profile. If you go User CP>Profile and scroll to the bottom you'll find a field for entering your serial numbers. :)

But that is exactly where it went wrong as many put in names instead.

Perhaps adding a separate field for name, or restricting the number field to numerical symbols - or better yet both... You could even go overboard and check is the # is already registered to prevent stolen identities... :usd:
