  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Dovetail and ET Bridgeplate ?

Does the Red Shoulder dovetail work with the ET Bridgeplate?

No. RED's shoulder dovetail is proprietary.

Or do I need to buy ET's Arri dovetail ?

Yes. The ET bridgeplate works with standard Arri dovetails. You can use them with the ET Arri dovetail plates or other Arri-compliant ones.

You make it sound like your actually going to receive your camera.

Dose any body know what`s wrong with RED's shoulder dovetail and bottom plate?

I think what you may be referring to is that the dovetail is not as rigid as the cheeseplate when it is mounted on the bottom plate. As I understand it, the shoulder dovetail is for handheld, yet can snap on and off the tripod quickly. But it is not as rigid; there is some play.

Use the cheeseplate for more solid operating.

Well, yes that's fine and dandy, but take note that the bottom plate needs to be removed to attach or remove the Cheeseplate. Until Red offers a viable solution, I would not buy a cheeseplate but go straight for another bottom plate such as the ET Arri bridge plate (sold on Red.com) or the Sim Video Toe piece (only available for 15mm, studio and lightweight, for the time being).

I've got a Cheeseplate on my camera, it never comes off, too much of a hassle. Also, it can't slide back and forth for balance adjustement on a tripod, really not very practical. I'm waiting for a 19mm Toe Piece from Sim, because it combines 15mm lightweight, and I think the Arri 19mm bridge plate sold on red.com is overpriced.

There are two long threads about the Base Plate and Dovetail problems here on Reduser that have been going on for months, but appart form "we're working on it" still no solution has been announced from Red, it's a pity.

Cheers,
Damien

I sent my Red bottom plate, Red shoulder mount and side mounts into Red for a recoat. The Red bottom plate and side mounts are on their way back. They're holding onto the shoulder mount whilst they replace the rubber washer round the locking pin which will help with the bottom plate/shoulder plate looseness.

Dave,

A temporary fix for the wobbly shoulder dovetail is to cut a piece of thin card the same shape as the rubber in-step (cut a little hole for the bolt bit to pop through too) - place this under the rubber in-step and the extra filling seems to make the whole mount a lot steadier.
