First about RED:

Red in human color psychology, is associated with heat, energy and blood, and emotions that stir the blood, including anger, passion, and love.
RGB: 255 - 0 - 0

Aside from RED, there is 30 official shades of red (viz attachment bellow). As a possible name for future RED products we can eliminate shades that have 2 or more words (as it will not make sense naming another camera "Red-Violet" and "Violet" on its own is shade of purple, not red). That leaves 20 shades.

We can further eliminate names that are taken (Scarlet of course, Crimson and Ruby). Also name of some shades are commonly used as "proper color", such as Magenta and Pink. That leaves 15.

Furthermore "Fuchsia" has RGB of 255 - 0 - 255 and therefore it is actually an alias for "Magenta". Down to 14.

We can also eliminate "Vermillion" it is naturally-occurring mercuric sulfide, HgS. Like all mercury compounds it is toxic. You don't want a toxic name. Down to 13.

"Puce" comes from French; puce literally means "flea", as the usual flea colouration is either dark reddish-brown or dark purplish-brown. Down to 12.

I think we can also leave out "Rust" as we don't want anything rusty in our industry. Ditto for "Cardinal" - lets not get religious. Down to 10.

"Maroon" is derivated from "Chestnut" - therefore we can eliminate "Chestnut" (Maroon is much nicer).

That leaves us with 9 choices. Please vote for Your favorite (MULTIPLE CHOICES ARE POSSIBLE). Here is something to help You out:

Alizarin derives from the Arabic al-usara, juice.
RGB: 227 - 38 - 54

Amaranth comes from the Greek a (not) + marainean (to waste away), i.e., a flower that never died that was believed to grow on Mount Olympus.
RGB: 229 - 43 - 80

Burgundy is a shade of red with a tinge of purple associated with the Burgundy wine of the same name, which in turn is named after the Burgundy region of France.
RGB: 128 - 0 - 32

Carmine, is a pigment of a bright red color obtained from the carminic acid produced by some scale insects and is used as a general term for a particularly deep red color.
RGB: 150 - 0 - 24

Cerise comes from the French word meaning cherry.
RGB: 222 - 49 - 99

Maroon is a dark brownish to purplish red color and is derived from French marron ("chestnut").
RGB: 128 - 0 - 0

Persimmon is derived from putchamin, pasiminan, or pessamin, from Cree, an Algonquian language of the eastern United States, meaning "a dry fruit".
RGB: 236 - 88 - 0

Rose is the color halfway between red and magenta on the HSV color wheel, on which it is at hue angle of 330 degrees. The name originates from Latin rosa, the name of the rose flower.
RGB: 255 - 0 - 127

Sangria is a color that resembles Sangría wine and can also be described as a burnt red. The word sangria comes from the Spanish word sangre, which means blood.
RGB: 146 - 0 - 10

For those of You wandering where Scarlet came from:

Scarlet (from the Persian säqirlāt) is a red color with a hue that is somewhat toward the orange. It is a pure chroma on the color wheel. Traditionally, scarlet is the color of flame. It may also refer to the color of the blood of a living person. Scarlet is made of red and orange.
RGB: 255 - 36 - 0

I personally like Amaranth because of what it means:

Amaranth comes from the Greek a (not) + marainean (to waste away), i.e., a flower that never died that was believed to grow on Mount Olympus.
RGB: 229 - 43 - 80

Timeless camera that never dies... Quite appropriate for the "ultimate" RED that will come out eventually...

I like "Ruby". Can you add that one to the list?

If You read the first post Ruby has been removed as it is taken by a scripting programing language... It can't be TM-ed by RED as such, sorry (I like it too).

You've got nine names up there and none of them are sexy.
How can I choose one of those?

I actually like Vermilion, don't let the poison put you off, it only kills the competition ;-)

RED Rose sounds like a great name. It's not a very strong colour, so that would fit perfectly for a simple HD camera.

Sorry to disappoint You, but those are the official shades of red.
However RED has already chosen the name EPIC for their new 5K camera, therefore departing from the "RED" nomenclature...

The idea of this thread/poll is to see what other shade of red is the most popular amongst us (the current or future clients of RED), in case they release another products and want to please us a little...

I love Scarlet - very appropriate...

how about "Ormond" -- which was derived from Ó Ruaidh meaning "descendent of Ruadh". The name Ruadh means "red" in Gaelic.

Sounds nice. I have just listed the "official" shades of red (in English). I'm unable to modify the poll to add the option, but even if I could I am afraid other language versions will sue me for discrimination...

Sorry
