  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New 7'' LCD shipping?

From another thread :
I emailed my rep on the 7" and here's his email response below from yesterday...

"The LCD has just been released, so we do not have any word on delivery dates. I would imagine that it would not be shipping for a while, and we would ship this item according to camera number. Sorry, but the LCD will not be swappable."

The last bit was my question if by any chance the 5.6" could be swapped out later for a 7" upgrade...

Have you seen any specs? Thinking of buying ikan V8000HD 8" TFT LCD Monitor $795 with composite inputs for my other cameras. Could work on RED as well?

I used to own the V8000HD. There are a few issues you should consider:

1. My first one was defective and wouldn't turn on.

2. My second one had at least one dead pixel, but I kept it because at least it turned on.

3. It was a nice monitor, but is nowhere as good or as slick as the RED LCD.

4. Battery life is pretty awful with the V8000HD.

5. Even when you turn the monitor off, it still drains power. (The I/O button stays on whenever there is power.)

All in all, you get what you pay for.

Thaks for sharing, Stephen. actually I have a (really good) Marshall but it's quite heavy for handheld action. There fore ikan, half the weight. But it doesn't sound so promising....

Do you know if it's possible to power the monitor from AB Gold Mount?

we should have more info on LCD shipment dates later next week.

Same resolution as the 5.6", but brighter, more contrast, and a larger viewing angle.

Regarding the V8000HD: couldn't have said it any better. Good thing my friend who owns one didn't bring it along to Vegas, I'd have had to restrain him from throwing it at an Ikan rep's head.

Thanks for that info. And also a button for 2:1 pixel zoom? Just wondering if you guys might have possibly implemented the 1:1 that some were asking for to assist focus checks a little better.

My # came up and now I want to hold out and get the 7" instead of the 5. I guess I can use a monitor for now. I hope it's soon. :)

Ikan's booth was just down the isle from Red, so I actually could see it in a short amount of time. Their HD monitors are 800x480 pixels. The Red LCDs are 1024x600 so that is one thing to consider.

1:1 pixel zoom wont come any time soon.

I'm going to wait too. Jarred told me last week that it could be a couple months before it ships but having seen them side by side ... I think it's worth the wait.

I have Apple and Dell 30" monitors. Will I be able to hook those up to the Red?

Apple, no. Dell... maybe. I haven't had a chance to try with a Dell 30", but some Dell monitors do work with the HDMI output. Their 30" is real finicky about which formats it supports, but I know that my older 20" 2004 model does work. I plan to use that monitor with RED on occasion for a directors monitor or video village of sorts. I have a 9" Panny to use too until they ship that 7" LCD.

Uh, oh. Maybe I won't be able to hold out for the 7". Or maybe there is a low cost option until then?
