We're getting decent desktop playback of the QT proxies at 1/2 and 1K, but the 2K proxies always drop frames off FW800 drives. Anyone stepped up to a G-Speed, do you get full speed at 2K?

And how about the e-sata?

Nothing's too fast once you get multiple streams going, :cold: FW800 is definitely too slow. Wonder what is *fast enough*.

G Sata

G Sata

G Sata is faster than FW800 but it requires the G Sata board intalled in the computer and a dual Sata cable from the drive to the card. It may or may not be too slow for 2K but it is worth a test. One big problem with the G Sata raid is that they are software raids set up by your computer. If the drive encounters a problem before or during booting down, like a power out, that is when the drive writes some kind of config file for itself, then the drive can be corrupted and you loose everything. This happened to me. They are working on a unit that has the hardware raid controller built in. That makes it a lot less likely to get corrupted in case of power out.

I find it funny you accept g speed for a RED to be honest

Take a look at Rorke's solutions. From top notch solutions for video editing storage to backup solutions, these guys have been used a lot by high end post houses.

There are quite a few companies now competing for the post production storage market, so it's worth talking to a few of them to do a cost analysis and see what works for your facility. I have seen the G Speeds in action and they are very capable. But the ones I have seen were doing 1080P. Not sure about 2K.

I'm trying to figure out the same thing. Is the G-Speed eS-model (e-SATA) fast enough for a 2k FCP workflow?
