Hi, I'm planning a documentary in Mauritius for Summer 2009 and was wondering if people think it is likely that I'll be able to get 2 Scarlets in my hands, with accessories, for Summer 2009...

Hard to say. The red team says scarlet will be out in early 2009. So that most likely means first quarter. Add a month or two for production delays. Given that Red One holders will get first dibs, add another month. My guess is that most people will get they're Scarlet around Summer time. Any where from May to August. But who knows this is all speculation on my part.

Sorry Ameer, it looks like you will be old by then. Your teenage years gone by.....

I'm really hoping to have it by May 2009. That gives two months for testing and what not, then shooting a short feature in July. Maybe be done one in time for sundance? Crosses fingers....

Remember, Jim has told us never to base our plans on his anticipated delivery dates.

Save up the money, have it ready to invest but don't build your life around his deadlines.

I'm thinking Red has a little more experience projecting ship dates now so I'm optimistic but I'm not selling my HV20 anytime soon.

Keep shooting with with the cameras you home today and have fun now. That way in a year you'll be such a better filmmaker and so ready for the Scarlet.

Yeah, I'm going to relish the last year of shooting to mini DV.

For once, I can say...

For once, I can say...

GLAD I HAVEN'T ENDED UP BUYING A CAMERA YET.

Amateur / Aspiring film maker here, for chrissake, I'm in film school, right?

But I still never found the right answer.... coming from a still photo background (first B&W 35mm hand process, progressing step by step now to Digital Color RAW) (I shoot Canon like our fearless leader)

RED makes so much sense!!!!

I'm glad I waited. I only have enough money to buy one cam... Ill drive to Irvine every day and work the production lines myself if it would help any...

(Hope Ted read this... maybe I could land a job...)

Need :help:?

Im shooting a couple of shorts on the trusty HVX, and one doc for broadcast,
overtime i learned not to just wait around for the next best thing, otherwise you wont produce anything. Scarlet may serve the purpose too at a way higher quality.
