Very mixed feelings about this. I worship the first two movies. I hope Hollywood doesn't F this up. Have they ever gotten an anime live action right?? (Well of course we know Ruairi will get Akira right!) I put these movies in the same league as Miyazaki's best work, and I know I would be very skeptical of a Miyazaki live-action film from Hollywood. I guess we will have to wait and see. I hope they don't treat it like some random X-Men movie or whatever. They need to bring in serious writers and a serious director.

Since they are shooting 3D, I wonder if RED will be in the running to provide the cameras?

I've been wanting this for a while. Just as long as they don't screw it up. I think as long as DreamWorks isn't scared to push this movie to the limit it should do fine. To be done right it should be rated "R".

Yep. A PG-13 rating will be the first sign of trouble.

This is gonna be a tough one.

It's almost like every part of this story which makes it great, is something hollywood doesn't do very well. Spielberg is apparently a huge fan, so lets hope he pushes it in the right direction.

I'll have my hands to my eyes, peeking through my fingers, watching this unfold.

Please attach a great director....

If Avatar can make it, then there *might* be hope.
PG-13 rating wouldn't kill it for me as the original Manga wasn't very violent.
But living up to the quality of the GITS movie is a high bar to reach; good luck not screwing that up. :)

If they treat it with the maturity and seriousness that the story deserves, then it could be awesome. It probably won't be an instant block buster, but it will be a movie that is remembered, like the best sci-fi movie ever...Bladerunner.

I give it hope.

They will totally use the 3D mocap tech that James Camera is using for Avatar it would be stupidos if they didn't. There is just no way to do Ghost in the shell with pure live action, it would be like Neon Genesis Evangelion live action... lame.
