Scarlet and Nikon lens...

There is gonna be no P+S Technik Interchangeable Mount System, end of story. Get real people, come down to earth and stop requesting this silly stuff. For $3k you have to feel blessed with what you are getting so far.

Exactly. Let us begin discussing what this camera will be used for and what the majority of those users are going to find useful to be included.

How dumb is it to ask for a Nikon mount on Scarlet?

What would you shoot wide with? There are NO Nikon lenses designed for a 2/3" sensor.

What are you thinking?

Jim

No Jim, Nikon had 2/3" B4 Bayonet Mount Zoom Lens w/2x extender for 3CCDs Professional and Broadcast ENG Cameras. Sxxy or JxC etc.
Yes, Nikon has stopped to maufacture 2/3" for 3CCD cameras anymore.

But I had one here in HKG.

@Jannard first Time I disagree with you.
OK Nikon does not make sense but an interchange lens why not.
Think about Si 2K or Iconix cam.
There are so many special applications.
Only one of them.
If I dont have synchronized high price zooms I select primes for 3D. Scarlet is so fine for 3D because you do not need in a lot of situations a special 3D rick to get the eyedistance.
But maybe you already consider a single cam 3D solution....just have a look to Korea
Anyhow. Scarlet is a bomb and I will consider it in future byside of our RED.

How much is the Si2k around 12k last time I checked so that is 4 times the price of scarlet.

I am thrilled with this camera thank you Jim and Red team

And that's just for the sensor block I think. To get it with a computer stuck on the back for recording the video it's around 20,000. Scarlet will record for 3,000.

If the lens is fixed then the 8x is on the short side. When it starts at 28mm (I think that is how it should be) it would mean 224mm. That's not that long. Especially when lenses always have weaknesses on the extreme wide and extreme tele ends. And I still think the T2.8 should be T1.8 or T2.0. But maybe they will address this. And of course, the only judgement can be made once it is there. But I think the issue with a fixed lens is that when it does not deliver, the whole Scarlet becomes no option anymore.

But I have faith in Jim and his team!

Sorry Jim,

but there are 2/3 inch sensor cameras that can use Nikon or any other type of lenses

like a PL, PV, Nikon F, Canon EF, Leica-R, Leica-M, Zeiss-Contax, C-mount, etc...

There is the Silicon Imaging SI-2K camera that uses a single large 16:9 format

2/3” CMOS sensor that has IMS or Interchangeable Mount System made by P+S Technik.

Have a look at NAB what P+S Technik can offer to RED.

Sorry Sanjin (and everyone else that missed the point). Just buy a RED ONE and you have every option you are all asking for.

Here is the missing point... for us to sell this package at this price, we have to sell A LOT of them. That means it has to be able to be used by many. Like it or not, that means a version that is fully auto. Interchangeable lenses means a different product that will sell in limited quantities... which means a higher price. Much higher.

This is a camera that can be sold in large quantities and deliver Pro performance at the same time.

Jim

Great! Jim, is it safe to assume that the fixed lens will perform to your expectations? Or will corners have to be cut at this pricepoint?

Thanks for making this happen.:)

And all of us poor film makers, VFX artists thank you. Not having to key DV footage is going to be SOOOO nice.

The fixed lens is not such a big issue, given all the other INSANE specs that have been announced and the EXTRATERRESTRIAL price-point.

We hope that the Scarlet lens is going to be adapter-friendly?

how about not deriding your customers as "stupid"?:angry2:

perhaps listen to them and consider the options they are requesting.

Many have said that very thing. We get such sophisticated responses as "f*cking noobs". Apparently some people can't stand the thought of us "noobs" - who aren't rolling in cash - getting in on some awesome Red action.

I just want to say, thanks Jim. Thank you to you and your entire team for Scarlet. I'll be there on reservation day 1, with money in hand.

+1

This may work perfectly for my needs, and I'm excited as hell! Thanks Red!

+2 :)

I think a good story can’t be told with a fixed lens on a 3k, $3000.00 camera that shoots Raw to a CF card, no. It might be awful difficult to do that. With a fixed lens that ONLY gives you wide angle, normal, telephoto and zoom capabilities? No way… What you might need better is a pinhole digital cinema camera set up on the Scarlet. I am sure that that will work wonders for people that can’t be creative enough with a fixed lens glued to the camera. Yeah, that’s the solution, pinhole camera.

Pinhole camera?

I think your'e too kind. I'd say people whining about the scarlet should spend their $3k on therapy...or at least a good vacation. I think they need it. :innocent:

Hi Jim,

After rummaging through all the crap I realised that nobody has really said anything constructive to the development of scarlett. I would possibly like to give my very humble opinion.

Perhaps you guys at Red could team up with Red Rock to set up tutorials for people who already own a Red Rock and are shooting with it as well as people who want to buy a Red Rock (or any other adapter) and teach us how these two tools put together make for the most kickass footage ever.

And by the way thanks for making a believer out of me, now i know that there are still some good guys out there.

Scarlett is the girls for me

I get something wrong there - I thought it´ s crop factor 2 but it´s 4, so 35mm lens mount (Nikon, Canon) really doesn´t make much sense. O.k. fixed lense is fact, I hope it starts @ ~T1.6 or so at least for the start of the range (aprox to 50 - 80mm equiv.). So DOF is o.k. No Problem when the lense closes to ~2.8 in tele range. The 2/3 chip is sentitive enough to compensate the light loss.

Sorry Sanjin...Like it or not, that means a version that is fully auto.
Jim

Wait....did I read this wrong? I saw that the 'lens' didn't have any rings for focus or zoom, but i hoped that was a concepting mistake.

When you say fully auto, you DO mean the ability to turn ON fully auto, right? We're not going to be stuck with some camera that only does auto focus or auto-iris, right?

I wouldn't think so, but this comment has me even more concerned.
