  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED Matte Box

Wish they announced a follow focus too, but one step at a time I guess.

I do wonder if the price will be competitive with Chroszeil but with the quality of Arri. How far can their rebellion go? :)

This matte box looks very well built, I'm sure it will stand up to its price ;) (just under 1k?)

This matte box looks cool n all, but its worthless. ITS NOT MATTE nor black

Um, matte boxes are not called matte because of the surface finish. It's because they were originally used to hold an image matte in front of the camera to control the shape of the frame. :whistling:

Also, the inside of the red matte box is a flat black finish like every other matte box on the market, so it will work just fine.

This matte box looks cool n all, but its worthless. ITS NOT MATTE nor black, so in reality this is not a matte box that would be used in the professional world. Light will be bounced around in there like a jumping jack possibly resulting in glare, streaks and loss of contrast. But hey, it looks nice no?:sarcasm:
Whats going on RED? EPIC=5k for 30,000?!

actually.. it is Matte. There is a "shiney" display model you may of seen, but in the booth and in production, the mattebox is indeed... matte.

Cool info. How do you know? (not for the history of the matte box, but for inside finish?) :shifty:

I held it in my hands at the Red booth. :usd:

I saw RedRock's Mattebox yesterday. Looked and felt great.

It has swing away and 19mm. They had one on a Red. Very nicely built. Even had nice click when centering the rotating stages (just like Arri).

After I left RedRock, I went over to Arri's booth and compared to the MB-20. Felt and operated pretty much the same.

Oh, gee. I might have made a fool of my self *Edits first post* I take what I said back :ninja:

Is the one on scarlet also going to be matte?
