On BOXX they forgot to specify what's inside the REDBOXX

$ 32000 for what?

$ 17,500 for the Scratch-Cine license included
$ 14,500 for what?

Actually we know what's NOT included
Video Card:
Upgrade NVIDIA QUADRO FX5600: with SDI output
Storage:
Upgrade with Fiber channel card for connection to SAN
Upgrade to RAID 50 configuration with add-in storage controller card
Upgrade larger hard drives 1 TB

Hi All,

Actually redBOXX DOES come with a QFX5600/SDI standard...the specs were incorrectly listed at some point...

Most importantly, what it comes with is a guarantee that owners of this system will be able to play out, color correct and conform their .R3D material @ HD & 2K in realtime.

It also comes with the fastest .R3D transcode times on the planet.

I will also mention that it comes with the expertise and backing of a company that's been building systems exclusively for 3D, VFX and DI pipelines for over 10 years. We've been working closely with Assimilate & Scratch for almost 5 years.

At $32K, If you think of this system as a "virtual RED telecine" or "RED deck", the price is very reasonable.

Adam.. does that translate to 16k UK sterling? Do you have a UK re-seller?

Hope NAB goes well...

Si

Hi flameop,

I'm not sure the current exchange rate but that sounds pretty close.

We have a couple of UK resellers - BlueGFX and Escape Studios.

I'm quite sure they would be happy to provide you with additional details and pricing after NAB (we are meeting with our resellers during the conference to brief them and get them some hand-on time with this brand new product line )

Cheers-

Adam

I believe it comes with a couple of big drives striped in RAID0 for the transcode target array and single drives for the OS and .r3d clips.

Never heard the tech specs on a 32-thousand dollar computer be listed so vaguely. i love the idea of the boxx solution, and am wanting detailed info. 'a couple of big drives i believe' just doesn't do it.

understand you're busy, and will wait for a detailed answer. cheers.

It comes with enough disc space to store 6 hours of RED RAW and 2 hours of transcoded 2K 10bit 4:4:4 DPX frames. If you need it, there is room to add another 12 hours of RED RAW storage internally. 6TB total internal storage capacity.

Respectfully, if you want a quote please contact us. But I'm not gonna put the shopping list out here for general consumption.

This is not about the parts. It's about a solution that works.

sorry boxx lab but you should say about the CC that there are no secondaries...ergo can we call it 1st light CC....isnt this what redcine can do?

your diagram could let people think, this is a poormans Scratch, which lucas said its not.

but dont know if you can manipulate each color chanel seperatly,which redcine cant.

Not with full telecine-type RGB lift, gamma, and gain controls, control surface support, and user definable real time viewing LUT's, among other things.

Exactly. And I am pretty sure Assimilate will make it easy for you to upgrade to a fill seat of Scratch from Scratch-Cine -

Hi Kaya,

I appreciate your concern about that. Both Assimilate and BOXX are working diligently to make sure that people understand the differences between Scratch Cine and Scratch.

While it is accurate to say that Scratch Cine enables basic color correction, It should be clear that this is NOT a "Scratch light" system. People who buy this system will understand that it is not designed for secondary color grading or "finishing".

As with any professional equipment, there is a bit of detailed discussion with the customer before the sale that will ensure that this solution will be used for the intended purposes.

Cheers,

Adam
